Re: When buying HDTV - what accessories... to get?

If your DVD player has a HDMI output, don't forget to get a cable for that too. If not then you can use the component cable option.

Something else that you might want to do is check the AVSForums for some optimum settings for the model LCD/Plasma that you purchased. The settings right out of the box are not optimum and should be tweaked for your room conditions. If they don't have the exact model that you purchased try to find one that is close and follow those suggestions until the picture looks good to your eyes.

Maybe some screen cleaning solution?
Nothing solvent based. that would cause screen yellowing.

Yes a good power supply/surge. Cheap HDMI cable is just a good as the expensive ones.

Maybe some screen cleaning solution?

Make sure you have a decent power bar, and some tape/velcro straps for cable management.
Also make sure you have a nice cool case of coke so you can enjoy your new tv.

Also listen to tigrzeye about the HDMI cable, he knows what he's talking about.

Most HD TV's and HD cable boxes now use an HDMI cable. It transfers both the audio and video signals to the TV over one digital cable. Most convenient and least expensive choice. You can find very reasonably priced HDMI cables on monoprice.com as well as other online outlets. DO NOT BUY a very expensine Monster, Belkin Pure AV, or other such high priced brand name HDMI cables. They are no better and way, way, way, too overpriced. But don't just take my word for it, see what CNet has to say here:

It's a great article to read in total, but be sure to read the section titled "What HDMI cable should I buy"

The other type of cable that could be used is a Component cable, commonly called the Red, Blue, Green cable as it's 3 RCA plugs are color matched to the outputs on the cable box and the inputs on the HD TV by these three colors. Here there are better cables that do make a difference in the picture quality as these cable are analog in type and to a degree the better the cable the more you will pay and the better the picture. But here too Monoprice.com has some excellent cables to choose from. Component cables only transfer the video to the TV you will need either an audio stereo cable (red and white labeled RCA contacts) or a coaxial digital cable or a Toslink/Optical cable to transfer the sound.

My personal suggestion.... stick to the HDMI....one cable and done ... simple!!
