I have checked a few more times and this has been the readings iam getting. Also i didn't see a package for 5mbps. I had the 1mbps then the 3mbps and what i have now 7mbps. How do i go about getting the line copper cleaned up ? Just post in the direct forum or call verizon? I just want normal lag free gaming would any of my readings indicate a line that could cause bad lag? |

It looks like your copper's doing pretty good. You should be able to get FastPath turned on without too much of a problem on that line, as long as it's not dropping sync.
@Natipoo: Your line is good but I would check to see what you can do about the upstream. Your line is really close but the upstream SNR is low, and the transmit power is high for the distance. Check around your home for any old or corroded terminals the copper wiring connects to and clean/fix it up as needed. If you have an older style NID such as a Gas Tube Protector or a Carbon Block consider having Verizon come out and replace it with a more modern one, even though they do not affect DSL service if they are in good shape.
@DJRayEarth: It's hard to say where Massive Lags are coming from, but Interleaving won't really cause that. You should be fine for FastPath, but I would suggest working on getting your upstream improved a bit. If you can get that improved you'll be able to enjoy a bit more speed and overall the connection should run better too. |

It works by removing error checking from the line. This decreases the latency on the line and is noticed when the line is not saturated, however it will not resolve latency caused by saturating your Internet connection. So, pretty much if your brother is using the connection up completely it will not prevent that sort of lag. You'll notice less lag and lower pings though. |

Smith - nice to post with you again. I have Verizon home DSL in NYC and have been working with an excellent network engineer to see what is the best we can do - ideally 7Mbps down fastpath. The engineer has set me this way a number of times but twice now the circuits have automatically set me back to interleaved in about 36 hours. I'm not seeing any reason why you should be on Interleaved and I doubt the modem is the reason. If the engineer is setting your line to Fast and it's being reverted a few days later, have they checked to see if ASSIA is running on the line? Interleaved is Verizon's new preferred mode for DSL connections and ASSIA when it runs seems to be quite biased towards it. I can't confirm how it's set up but that is generally what it seems to do.
Most lines in my area that were on Fast have been put to Interleaved mode as it is now the default setting, rather than default based on the plant in your area or your CO. I was moved to Interleaved for a day, where I had tim_k turn FastPath back on and it's been like that since. I've had Verizon adjust a few other things on my line for various reasons but I still have FastPath because I asked for it specifically. ASSIA also does not run on my line. |

If you look at the .txt attachment in my post directly above, there ARE references to ASSIA. That HSI Field Ping Test also has these lines:

Do you still think the margin is good enough and the attenuation is low enough to maintain fastpath at 7Mbps down? I note that both are a bit worse when I'm on fastpath than when I'm on interleaved, but doesn't seem like a big difference.

For that line I would try to avoid it. The downstream margin is pretty low and it will probably start dropping out unless you can get it to about 12dB solidly. But yet again, it may also hold without any issues.

You can use the following page to get the statistics: » 192.168.1.1/transtat.htm . If that doesn't work, » 192.168.1.1/htmlV/transtat.asp should work though that is mainly for the Westell 7500 and newer 6100s. Failing that, visit » 192.168.1.1/ and then visit System Monitoring, Advanced Monitors, and then finally, Transceiver Statistics. @Shadyink13: Your line looks to be OK. Your upstream is slightly off sync however, and I would expect the margin on the upstream to be a bit high for the distance. You could also get a speed upgrade on the downstream if you'd like. 7M shouldn't be completely out of the ballpark. @daro7: Your line looks like it was optimized. I wouldn't get FastPath on there without a speed reduction and some stability checking (basically, check to see if the line can reliably transfer data over the long term, and can stay online without a drop). @bshampine: I don't specifically know how that modem reports Interleaved mode, but that almost seems like that is what it is suggesting. To verify, you can try running a traceroute while your line is idle during non-peak hours to see what sort of latency you get. 23+ms latency is often a sign of Interleaving. You should be fine for a higher speed package if you do upgrade, and you are good to go for FastPath as of thus far with those stats. |

I wouldn't do it. You're at 5Mbps already and despite having ADSL2+ you're pretty far out and are holding what would be considered proper sync (though upstream and downstream are slightly lower than it should ideally be). If you'd like Fast, you'll have to decrease the speed unless Verizon can shorten the line. |
