[Interleave/Fastpath] Re: Need to switch between Interleave and FastPath? Part 2Margins are a bit on the low side for FastPath, but it should be doable. |

said by Smith6612:Margins are a bit on the low side for FastPath, but it should be doable. I'd test again at the NID first to see if there is any internal work that can be done to clean up the line first. This one just cuts it really close IMO. |

The NID test? Basically you need to locate the demarcation point from the wire that comes from the pole or street to the wiring in your home. It's typically a grey box on the outside of your home or in the basement. Inside of that box, there is a test jack in which you can use to plug the modem into. Plug the modem into that jack, and power it on and post up the line statistics again. It'd be convenient to borrow a laptop for a few minutes if you don't have one.
For switching to FastPath, you can visit the Verizon Direct forum at this site and let them know that you want to move to FastPath. Do the NID test first as Jodokast suggested to see if we can get some more margin on the line before asking. |

As is, it will most likely be fine. But if we can get things a little higher, there will be no doubt. One little thing that may help is if you are using a standard, flat phone cord, try finding the rounded one that should have shipped with your modem and use that. It doesn't mean an automatic improvement will happen, but it is a better cable, and it can't hurt any. |

Ok, you guys are talking about the demark box right? I have a wire that comes out of that and goes to a box than to my modem, all the wires that im using came from verizon, all the wires only have 2 in them. I have a stand alone setup from my modem i have the wires that come from verizon strait to my computer. |

We're talking about one of these boxes. Since you said there's a box, I assume this is it. |

Fastpath?

Not like that. Your attenuation is low enough though that it may be possible to clean up the line and raise your margins. |

Would this qualify for FastPath?

Yes it would . Go ahead and request it. Should you ask, you can take 7.1Mbps speeds as well as you have plenty of margin to work with. |

You could but your recent upgrade to 7.1Mbps took the margins down to a low area. So while I'm a bit iffy, if you're willing to possibly lower the margin enough to cause some slight troubles, then it should be fine. Otherwise, I'd say it's a no go as the margins are a bit low. |

Do i qualify?

Do you think that I will qualify for 7.1? Or am I at the limit of 3.0/768?
Sometimes, my upstream doesn't sync that high, sometimes it syncs at 640. |

You're pretty much past the limit for 7.1Mbps, but you can still send 3Mbps out a little farther on good wires and a bit more with ADSL2/2+ should you be wondering. For the upstream, that'll probably go downhill quicker. |

You may not get 7.1, but it can't hurt to ask. They may provision you for 5/768 which may be worth the price to you. |

RebelSpy, with those stats you can take the full 3Mbps speed with FastPath. Before you get FastPath, call up Verizon and have them fix your provisioning to the full 3Mbps plan, then once it comes, ask for FastPath in the Verizon Direct forum. |

Your line should handle FastPath with no problem. Just ask for it in the Verizon Direct forum located on this site. |

Visit the Verizon Direct forum on this site to ask for it. If you read the stats yourself, hope you know that FastPath does lower the margins a little bit. |
