Re: Need to switch between Interleave and FastPath? Part 2 That line could most likely do 10Mbps/1Mbps with FastPath. 7.1Mbps/768kbps with FastPath is certain. |

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | reply to Smith6612 New member here. I've done quite a bit of reading, but couldn't find my answers. I have the cheapest Verizon DSL -- only .5 -1 Mbps & ~2.5 miles from the facility. Is this too marginal for FASTPATH?
The first tweaks I did were the changes to the default 1500 packet size down to 1492. It worked! My test-speed went from ~0.5 Mbps to ~0.8.
What exactly are the "transceiver statistics"? None of the tests I did showed those results. From reading the previous thread, I did sign up for line-monitoring. Seems like it comes from that analysis?

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | reply to Smith6612 Thanks. I just received the gateway a few days ago -- it's labeled "Verizon GT704WGB" & ditto on the info "card". I see no description of it in Win7's device manager.
I did go to an ip-address that was posted on the verizon.com forum site. It showed all kinds of real-time statistics (and even tracking all my websites!) & options on my gateway -- but not the particular list I see others posting here.
I did sign up for & started "line monitoring" here, and I'll see what I have to do to share some results. Added: I can view what little there is so far on my "line monitor results", but don't see how to share it -- it's just on ***.dslreports.com/monitored/detail?detail=1 I saved the csv file on my PC, but that doesn't help showing it here. From another thread's advice I read earlier, I couldn't find any "report" function or suggested links on the monitor page. |

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | Well, duh, I found the link for sharing. »/testhistory/1826945/25af0 So just seems like I need to wait 24 hrs for that. |

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | reply to Smith6612 Looking at the Verizon site, my gateway is an Actiontec GT704WGB. When I look at my line monitor, it has graphical results for ~2 days for 2 different sites. But the "tests" page where one can share results, it says no data yet?? So apparently I'm still clueless. It's almost enough to just forget it. |

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | OK, I did at least get some relevant info:
VPI: 0 VCI: 35 DSL Mode Setting: auto DSL Negotiated Mode: G.DMT Connection Status: showtime Speed (down/up): 864/160 kbps ATM QoS class: UBR Output Power (Downstream/Upstream): 11.4/7.3 dBm Attainable Rate (Downstream/Upstream): 9792/1104 kbps HEC Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 31/0 OCD Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 0/0 LCD Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 0/0 SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream): 29.1/31.0 dB Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream): 44.5/21.0 dB
No expert, but the attenuation looks pretty bad. |
|
Smith6612Premium,MVM join:2008-02-01 North Tonawanda, NY kudos:22 | The attenuation is fine. You should be fine for both a boost to 1MBps/384kbps in speed (which I would suggest!) AND FastPath. You should be able to do about 5Mbps with statistics like that. |

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | Thanks. What do I do to "enable" fastpath? Contact someone? Software change?
Also, in the gateway setup, should the gateway firewall be set to "on"? |

Also, in the gateway setup, should the gateway firewall be set to "on"? Hit me up with a private message. I'll need your DSL # -- RIP my babies Buttons 1/15/94-2/9/07, Beamer 7/24/08, & Bows 12/17/94-10/11/09 |

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | reply to tim_k Thanks, Tim, you did it. Thanks to all the others, too, for your IMs. |

beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | reply to tim_k OK, here's the current results from my gateway setup log. Compare to my post a few posts above:
VPI: 0 VCI: 35 DSL Mode Setting: auto DSL Negotiated Mode: G.DMT Connection Status: showtime Speed (down/up): 1184/448 kbps ATM QoS class: UBR Output Power (Downstream/Upstream): 11.9/7.6 dBm Attainable Rate (Downstream/Upstream): 8736/1104 kbps HEC Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 18617/0 OCD Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 0/0 LCD Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 0/0 SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream): 26.4/23.0 dB Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream): 52.5/22.0 dB
Look at the improvement in speed.
Not sure how to interpret the high HEC errors above, but in browsing I don't detect any connectivity issues, slowdowns, errors, etc. |

FEC errors are corrected errors due to Interleaving. See how many you accumulate in a day, as you don't want those accumulating at a consistent pace in too short of a time. Errors on a clean/well-running line should be one or two CRCs every several hours on a line without Interleaving. |
|
 | reply to Smith6612 Should I switch back to Interleave? Not too long ago I switched to FastPath for online gaming, but I've been disconnecting lately because of my modem losing sync. These are what I get as FastPath:
Transceiver Statistics Transceiver Revision A2pB020b3.d20h Vendor ID Code 4D54 Line Mode ADSL_2plus Data Path FAST
Transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 5887 863 Margin (dB) 7.5 11.6 Line Attenuation (dB) 47.0 24.7 Transmit Power (dBm) 15.9 12.4
Thanks in advance for any help. I posted in the direct forums already since I wanted to switch back ASAP to have a more stable connection, but just wanted to know what people think here. |

Smith6612Premium,MVM join:2008-02-01 North Tonawanda, NY kudos:22 | If you've done things such as the NID Tests to ensure there isn't noise being caused by the inside wiring, go ahead and ask for Interleaved mode. It should help with the drops if you wish to keep the speed. |
|
1 edit | reply to Smith6612 Thanks for the quick reply. I tried tests from the NID and it seems like it's just my distance that's the problem.
Do you think that if I changed my plan to 5Mbps (it's at 7.1 right now, just FastPath put it down to 5887), I would be able to handle FastPath reliably on that? I'm thinking about trying that, since latency is more important to me.
If there is no such thing as a 5Mbps plan (I think they have one, but not 100% sure), is there some kind of way to limit the speed the modem is connecting at?
Thanks in advance and sorry for any inconvenience. |
|
Smith6612Premium,MVM join:2008-02-01 North Tonawanda, NY kudos:22 | You're already set to 5Mbps so the next speed down would be 3Mbps. |
|
beng1 join:2012-03-24 Flintstone, MD | reply to Smith6612 OK, I put in a new line on a splitter from the outside box , then directly from there to the gateway, bypassing all the old inside line/connections. Here's the new data:
VPI: 0 VCI: 35 DSL Mode Setting: auto DSL Negotiated Mode: G.DMT Connection Status: showtime Speed (down/up): 1184/448 kbps ATM QoS class: UBR Output Power (Downstream/Upstream): 11.9/7.6 dBm Attainable Rate (Downstream/Upstream): 8896/1104 kbps HEC Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 135/0 OCD Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 0/0 LCD Errors (Downstream/Upstream): 0/0 SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream): 25.6/23.0 dB Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream): 45.0/21.0 dB
So that has dropped the attenuation. |

 | reply to Smith6612 wondering can i have fast line path on my connection with SNR margin: 42.3/30.8 attenuation: 24.9/14.5 ...and one more question.........it seems it doesnt matter my oprator change my ADSL path to Fast or INterleaved....it just show fast in my modem page....i guess it should chagne there also...atleast it would about 2 or 3month ago...??..tnx |
