| reply to Smith6612 Re: Need to switch between Interleave and FastPath? Part 2
Its me again. I was the one who was getting 3.1mbps at 5mbps service. Well they ended up saying nothing was wrong and that was on the verizon direct ticket people on this site. So anyway I want to know if I switch to interleaved if my speed will increase. I don't really mind about reaction time or ping but if speed can increase up to like 4-4.5mbps I would change it. So what kind of change would I see if I change to interleaved? This is my stats: Transceiver Statistics Transceiver Revision A2pB020b3.d19d Vendor ID Code 4D54 Line Mode ADSL_2plus Data Path FAST
Transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3785 819 Margin (dB) 6.3 9.9 Line Attenuation (dB) 53.5 30.5 Transmit Power (dBm) 17.2 12.4 |

| FastPath to Interleaved won't cause a massive change, but it will help raise it a little bit. If you want to remove it, go ahead and see if the line improves any. If not, I would honestly move back to 3Mbps. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| reply to Smith6612 This is weird. I asked in the Verizon direct forum if switching from Fastpath to Interleave will help. They said that I already have Interleave and told me to not try and change it because they are trying to move forward with technology. But isn't Fastpath more advanced than Interleave. And the stats for my modem says I am still on Fastpath. Am I missing something? Transceiver Statistics Transceiver Revision A2pB020b3.d19d Vendor ID Code 4D54 Line Mode ADSL_2plus Data Path FAST

| Can you post up a trace route to a website? I'm wondering if you may have come across a firmware glitch that someone else here might have reported with Interneaved vs. Fast. Fast itself is technically not more advanced. It basically reduces error checking in exchange for slightly lower margins and lower latency. Interleaved is the opposite, higher margins and latency but more error correction. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| The latency you're getting on that line already shows that you're on Interleaved. If you had FastPath it'd be around 10ms. In this case, I'd suggest moving back to 3Mbps to raise at least the downstream margin. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| reply to Smith6612 I've called them up a few months ago about it and always get told they would either "have to send someone out" or "they lack permission to change it." I was on fastpath before and had great pings everywhere (not anymore; I ping 60+ everywhere even places in my own state and it doubles again if it's cross-country - Unacceptable for serious gaming with money on the line). Recent package change put me on interleaved.

| That is really not what happens. Moving from Interleaved to FastPath reduces error checking on the signal in exchange for latency. For FastPath to Interleaved, it increases error checking and latency on the line, and also raises the margin slightly due to a higher error checking ability.. Unless of course I'm mistaken. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

1 edit | reply to Smith6612 I posted the following in a new topic, but didn't know if I needed to post it here instead: ----- I would like to switch from Interleaved to FastPath. I've had FastPath for the last couple of years or so and a recent change (bundle of service) bumped me to Interleaved. Please, please, please switch me back to FastPath. I don't know how to share my account information privately. Please advise. -----
I've been running clean on fastpath, but the following are my stats anyway: ----- Transceiver Statistics
Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0 Vendor ID Code: 4 Line Mode: ADSL2+ Mode Data Path: Interleaved
Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3355 839 Margin (dB) 16.0 14.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 45.5 22.0 Transmit Power (dBm) 19.3 12.0 -----
Also, is 7M available (or will it eventually be) for me? Please advise.
Any help is much appreciated. |

| With those stats, the 7.1Mbps plan is a no-go. However, you can get FastPath. The Verizon Direct forum on this website is where you want to go to get it changed.

| Any chance for me to possibly get bumped to 3.0? (maybe if they switch me to ADSL2+?)
Transceiver Statistics
Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0 Vendor ID Code: 4 Line Mode: G.DMT Mode Data Path: Fast
Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 1792 448 Margin (dB) 14.0 18.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 55.5 31.5 Transmit Power (dBm) 13.2 11.9
What wierds me out is that the margin fluctuates from 12-14.5. Can this indicate any possible wiring problems? And how should i go about approaching my proposal to get switched to ADSL2+ mode? Any way I could get migrated to a new DSLAM either? |

| The margin moving around slightly throughout the day is normal. It's simply the modem taking noise readings on the line, and noise does vary slightly as the day goes on. If it's moving around any more than 6dB at a time, that's usually a sign that something is up. In your case, ADSL2+ will help the line out. Given it's length, you'll be cutting it very close though so don't be surprised if when you do get thrown onto the 3Mbps package your line is thrown onto Interleaved mode or your sync is lower than it should be. Normally in that case, I wouldn't suggest getting 3Mbps, especially at attenuation greater than 50dB.
If you do have a NID, can you take the modem to the NID and grab the Transceiver stats from there? It'd let me see if any improvements can be spotted. -- It's all fun and games in a Team Fortress 2 battle until your sentry gun is sapped by the Spycrab! |

| This is the prompt i got from the verizon direct representative. Is it true that the 3.0 package can simply "not be offered" on my line? Can they not just 3.0 to my house? The rep also said that i am eligible from a technical standpoint. How do these line qualification tools work and do you have an opinion or advice for me when i tackle the phone support line?
Technical Support (including Verizon Direct) does not have access to the database that shows speed package availability. From a technical standpoint, your DSL line could be provisioned for the 3.0 package; however, we do not know if 3.0 is offered or available for your DSL line. All speed upgrades are submitted by our Customer Support Team. Our Customer Support Team has a line qualification tool for this purpose. As such, you should contact our Customer Support team for line qualification information: Verizon High Speed Customer Support | 8005676789 | Voice Prompt - DSL Billing | 8am-12am Daily EST |
