| Qwest has cities and more densely populated areas in its region- though less than VZ or T- and from what I hear, they're getting killed in the cities and other places by cable.
Really, Qwest has several issues in addition to the population thing... the biggest being the company's massive debt (VZ and T aren't exactly debt-free either, but their size compensates), years of inept and corrupt management, and no cash-cow wireless division to prop up and help fund upgrades to the landlines.
Stock-wise, Q trades at a Price to earnings ratio of around 3. Comparatively, VZ is around 17, T 14- the market has absolutely zero confidence in Qwest right now, and the company's shareholders would likely be very annoyed at taking a risky route of massive capital expenses that might never cover the return. |
