Clayton County loses accreditation

This is embarrassing for Clayton County and all of Georgia. As the article notes, this is only the third system to lose accreditation since 1969. The school board has had a bunch of incompetent people. It is reassuring to at least see that the Governor has removed four school board members. I really feel sorry for all those families with children who are about to graduate, not knowing if they will be accepted into college or obtain financial aid, not for what they did, but because of the incompetence of those in charge. Hopefully, during the appeal process they can get their act together and regain accreditation.

It really is a shame. Will be a mass exodus from Clayton county. Homes will be hard to sell. I know of at least 1 senior that will move in with their sister and attend a city of Atlanta school. There will be others that being things like that.

It could have all been avoided if we weren't dealing with school board members who were less interested in power and more interested in getting the school system back on track.

These problems have been brewing for a while.

If those dumbass school board members actually stepped back and let someone else fix the problems instead of wasting time trying to convince everyone they aren't as worthless as they seem they wouldn't be in this mess...

/end run on sentence.

This isn't even half of the story. Now take into account the cost per pupil on a yearly basis and determine the financial cost.

What it will say is that $7-9K/year-student for this disaster. But, it appears to be a common theme, no? Every single one of those in the administration of the school system should be fired, and then a suit against them.

Instead of firing people, they hire a superintendent who has, among other benefits, $285,000 in salary, $2,000 per month housing allowance, $28,500 in a tax-sheltered annuity, 30 paid vacation days, two days per month to do outside consulting work, no budget limitations, and can make changes without approval of the Board!

And, what has he done? The County still loses accreditation.

Amazing, and unfortunately true.
