KrK : Go to your Big box type grocery stores (The 24-hour-a-day type places is best) like Super Walmarts, or etc in your area.

If you go in late at night (wee hours) when they are doing all the stocking, I've never had a problem, the employees have always been more then happy to let you take all the boxes you want for free (hey less work for them to get rid of!) The boxes have usually been broken down, but are easy to rebuild with packing tape. Diaper Boxes are excellent for moving, I've found, as they are about the perfect size, not too big, not too small. If you get big huge boxes and fill them up they are actually a PITA and bulky to try and carry yourself. Better a couple of easy to carry boxes (and easy to pickup, stack, fit in the door, etc) then one big huge box.

Good luck!

JoelC707 : I just moved from Atlanta to Tucson so I can share some of my experience with you. For about a month or two before I moved I collected all the boxes I could from my office and from Bath and Body Works where a friend worked. Between those two we got 90% of our boxes. We checked out liquor stores and even Kroger but they were all crushed already and told us they couldn't save them for us.

It's too bad too cause I saw a basket FULL of boxes in the freezer section of Kroger one day. I was tempted to go ask the stock person if I could "borrow" the basket lol. We did drive around back (strip mall that had the Kroger and liquor stores) and checked out dumpsters, we ended up getting boxes from the dollar store.

As for the boxes themselves, I couldn't agree more, smaller is better. The problem with a big box is that unless you are going to put something big in there like blankets, you will end up hurting yourself when you try and pick it up. Go ahead, get one of the "large" boxes from u-haul or somewhere and fill it full of dishes or even papers and try picking it up. I'll bet most can't do it without straining and/or hurting themselves.

Plus smaller boxes sometimes work out better. For example, I had several 50-pack stacks of CD cases and found quite a few small boxes from the dollar store that were almost perfect fits for the CD cases. Otherwise I would have had them in a larger box with other stuff and possibly getting broken. With the smaller boxes they were the only thing in the box and it was a nice tight fit.

Warzau : Call up local moving companies and ask if they sell their boxes. When you move you can rent the boxes. Yes rent them then when they are returned they are reused for the next move. I would ask if they would extend this to you even if they are not moving you. Add that you would need alot and they might oblige. If not ask how much outright it would cost to buy them.

Don't forget to have a round figure of the items you need to pack.
