I've complained of dropped calls on AT&T's standard cell network, so I don't see why we should expect the 3G network to handle it any better.
And that is also often due to subpar or broken phones. (which AT&T is sells because people are stupid enough to be swayed by free phones, which are almost universally garbage reception-wise)
