| How is this misleading?
At least TEN YEARS ago, Sprint used to run ads talking about how their fiber optics gave you a clearer long distance call. Guess what--your call was traveling down lots of copper twisted pairs too!
So what's the idea behind this rant--that now it is only acceptable for a service provider to talk about fiber optics if every last inch of the network is fiber?
Cable companies aren't saying anything that has not been true for YEARS. For a long time now they have had networks that make heavy use of fiber. They have gone through entire cities, digging up streets and replacing plant with fiber.
I agree this is a lot of marketing blather. Look, if you give me the services I want at the price I want, I don't care if it comes over fiber, copper, or a rubber innertube. But if other people are dumb enough to be swayed by all this marketing crap, then what is wrong with cable companies stating what is TRUE, which is that their networks use fiber? |

| Defining fiber optic internet as any network that makes use of fiber means that fiber optic internet has no meaning whatsoever, you might as well talk about "Digital Internet"... hell, even AOL has a fiber-optic backbone network.
The problem people have is that they're seeming to imply that FTTN = FTTH. But they're not outright saying it, so it is alright I guess... |
