[ Professions] Engineering - which specialisation

I am stuck at level 200~ with my hunter engineer and I can't decide if I should go gnome or goblin specialisation. Could you guys give me up to day info on which spec is better (if it truly is)? I know many say it is a matter of teleport locations, but is there anything else besides teleports that could be deciding factor when picking up a particular specialisation? Also speaking of WOLK, I am not sure if there are enough info that would justify and prefer one specialisation over other one?

thanks for any info

Re: [ Professions] Engineering - which specialisation

engineering is more fun than useful. But I would say Gnomish is slightly better since you can make bombs and things like the gnomish death ray! Then just buy a pair of goblin xl jumper cables from a goblin engineer.

actually, you are kind of correct

Goblin can make a couple more bombs than gnomish. I wasn't thinking because I have been a gnomish engineer for about 3 years now and make bombs. Most useful bombs both classes can make actually I think.

Just wondering something for myself also. Is it worth continuing with Engineering? Or should I go to BS? I want to make money more than have fun. lol

if you want to make money, take up mining/skinning. two gathering professions are easier to make money with than most other things..

but at 70 when you can build a turbo charged flying machine, engineering is worth it

Most items engineers make can only be used by engineers, so it's hard to sell things.

The only things my engineer really sells is healing and mana potion injectors. The patterns run from 700G to 1,000G or so on my server and a stack of 20 goes for 100G.

Instead of being insulting, you could learn to read. In my reply to you I never said there were gnomish specific bombs, just that most useful ones could be made by both. such as dense dynamite, fel iron bomb, adamantite grenade, etc.. My gnomish warrior uses a lot of these.

the sapper charges are useless since they do almost as much damage to you as to the mobs. the bomb dispensor isn't worth a trinket slot. the bigger one is nice though.

Gnomish is still better imo. You get the good explosives, plus the death ray, net-o-matic, mind control cap...

Here are some of the new WOTLK patterns. I'll have to say that locations are the thing. I went with Goblin engineering because I wanted the weapons, but there wasn't anything great. I do find being able to port to Area 52 makes dailies go a bit quicker.

There's no real difference between the two that makes it worth choosing one over the other unless you intend to make the epic goggles each specialisation offers.

Check those out and decide whether you would make them. Bare in mind that at lvl 62 you can make goggles specific to your class that are far superior, require a lower engineering skill and the pattern for which is available from the Outlands engineering vendor in Thrallmar or Honor Hold.

Jumper Cables XL can only be made by Goblin engineers, however any engineer with the required skill can use them.

The expansion will bring a new rez toy, and this pattern will be for Gnomish engineers.

Gnomish Flame Turrets are the best explosive toy I've seen. But after lvl 60 I don't particularly see much use for any explosive except as charges to open locked doors or chests.

Pot meet kettle?

I'm not here for a bitchy nerd-off on WoW knowledge. I actually just didn't see your post backtracking on the bomb issue.

Just stop using bombs as a positive for choosing Gnomish already

Does anyone have a list of the specific engy recipes?

Those are two of the better items yes, but scopes sell well too as well as some of the guns.

I've had two high lvl engineers, goblin & gnome. Aside from the pretty decent goggles & ammo (non-epic), I found little use. Went Herb/X-Alchemist. But it would certainly be the funnest profession if there ever was one.

The mote extractor is not specific to one or another and is the big money maker. The other night I was on standby for BT and spent the evening and flying around Shadow Moon. The night netted me 28 Primal Shadow (35G each) 74 Adamantite, 46 Fel Iron, 20 odd eternium, a bunch of earth primals, some fire primals, 12 khorium a few green gems and a blue gem. Toss in random trash and from mobs I had to deal with and a blue from a silver elite and it was about a 1500G night, 900G or so of that coming directly from engineering. Not bad for a profession seen as a money sink by most.

I went gnomish myself, the rocket launcher is nice but turning players into a chicken just before their trinketed up pyroblast goes off never gets old.

The chicken thing is also an awesome way of stopping some dead in their tracks when they try to ride past you in a BG.

My other BG favourite is flame turrets. Plonk one down in a tower or next to an AV flag and watch the poor souls burn as they try to cap. The amount of damage these things do is unreal, even at level 70.

I agree with Brazbit.

The best reasons for having an engineer, be it Gnome or Goblin, are the healing and mana potion injectors, and the cloud zapper. I do find scopes sell, however.

The injectors are great for raiding, as 20 healing and mana pots take only 2 inventory spots instead of 8. And the cloud zapper is my favorite - pick up the Shattered Sun quests in Nagrand, and, by the time you are finished, you have picked up one or two primal airs...

My shadow priest is gnomish engineer (does not need Jumper Cables) and my warlock is goblin, and has the Jumper Cables XL version.
