Re: Review AT&T U-Verse U-verse available in my area, in IL. First I tried to place the order online but it doesn't work, it says I have to call them.
I call them, the guy that picks up sounds like I woke him up. He gets my info but he cannot place the order because "the system tells me conflicting services". I explain to him that I have DSL with AT&T and he says that I have to cancel that service before I can place the order. I say Ok, how long does it take to have u-verse installed so I know how long I'll be without internet. He doesn't know and for some reason the question really annoys him and he doesn't know how to end the call quicker. I manage to extract the order number from him and end the call. I call again immediately and a lady picks up but she's in the middle of a discussion with a colleague, I presume, saying something about a trip to airport. Then she gets back to me "Yeah, this is Anna". I don't even bother, I hung up and call again. Kira picks up, she sounds like she would like to be anywhere but there, but she manages to tell me that it takes 7 to 10 days.
So, after reading all the horror stories about u-verse installation, I really don't feel like dealing with these folks if something goes awry. Never mind, that I have to be bound by the limitations of their system that is not able to schedule an install because I have another service with exactly the same company.
Maybe I'll order if somehow AT&T gets their act together, which is very unlikely. Hopefully FIOS will be available by then.
To top it off, today, where I work, we were supposed to have 7 T1's delivered by AT&T and not only that it didn't happen, they are lying about not having access to the premise. Not to mention that the number of outages at our clients caused by AT&T (direct service or services provided by other companies over AT&T loops) is far greater than in any other case.
Good luck. |

If you really have AT&T DSL you do not have to disconnect it before ordering, the installer will transition it for you on the spot. That is exactly what I did. |

 | Yes, I am sure my DSL is with AT&T. And I took it one step further, I called DSL cancellations and tell them the story. The lady says "weird", she puts me on hold and calls u-verse herself. When she gets back she says that she was told the same thing. I would have to cancel first because of the ordering system at u-verse. Then I also have to wait 48 hours so that the change is reflected in the u-verse system. |

I would suggest posting in the AT&T Direct forum, and in the AT&T DSL forum for your area, and see if you can get someone to fix this or give you advice on how to proceed. |

I just had U-Verse installed this morning and had the exact same problem. My order for U-Verse was dropped because I had DSL via FTTP to my home. The techs got to my house, had U-Verse ready to go in less than 10 minutes, then bam, won't connect because the order was dropped. Took the two techs at my house THREE HOURS on the phone to get the order back in the system. Way to go AT&T...paying two techs for over three hours to sit in my house. |
