| reply to TKJunkMail Re: [POLL] Do you agree with Comcast's new AUP ?
I have a real problem with the apparent Network Neutrality issue looming with Comcast limiting my DirecTV VOD downloads by setting such a low cap.
DirecTV's fledgling VOD (which delivers content thru the subscriber's broadband connection, be it Comcast or Verizon or AT&T or cable or DSL) is being harmed by Comcast's decision, since the Hi-Def content IS quite large. I've seen estimates of 5GB per hour of content, so even an hour of HD programing downloaded per evening would put the subscriber in violation. ONE hour of programming per evening is NOT a lot.
This is NOT BitTorrent, nor warez, nor usenet binaries . . . this is perfectly legal usage that will NEVER get past the "oddity" stage of acceptance due to industry acceptance of such low caps as instituted by Comcast, with many cable & DSL services pulling a "me, too" and setting similar caps.
I also have a problem with not having a tool readily available on Comcast's site to access individual subscriber usage. They're gonna set a cap, then cut you off based on "their" measurement but not let you see it? How is THAT better than the previous, much hated "invisible" cap? It's just a different type of invisibility . . . the Comcast "Three-card-Monte"
I can't help but think that these cap decisions by Comcast were made long ago to answer competitor roll-outs of competing television content. -- Ö¿Ö The Rules of Spam | Maryland's Newest Anti-Spam Law Where are we going? And what's with the hand basket? |

2 edits | reply to TKJunkMail I Voted H**l no.Never fully agreed to the first one... I know that the 'Caps' and reason for it, is really a marketing strategy of 'Pay More for less'. Not to mention cripple any competition to what Comcast may have to offer. They purposely set a seemingly high amount as to not be too obvious as to their (Comcast's) original intentions. You should know as well as any other that at the rate technology & internet usage is going... a 250 GB cap wont be squat in the not so distant future.
I never used much nor do i p2p. I don't condone those that do 'abuse' bandwidth. But I care not to be one that pays the bleeping price for it either. -- Browse A lot - Sign In Little - Post Even Less |

| reply to TKJunkMail I remember when I metered a total of 32 GB of data one month and was worried I may have done too much, abused the service.
Now it turns out people are whining about a 250GB cap?
Wake me when it's a 32GB cap. |

| reply to TKJunkMail I think it's a step in the right direction and 250GB/month is generous. I believe they need to agree to review and raise the caps on a regular basis however, along with providing a reliable meter for a customer to gauge their usage. -- Linux Haters Unite! |

| reply to TKJunkMail Wil the alloted amount be higher then 250 gigs?
Even though they are saying 250 gigs to the public, I would be curious if the real # is higher (say 260 - 280 gigs) to cover discrepancies, overhead, etc.
It's kind of like when you receive a bill saying pay us by this date or we'll cut you off, and a few days, passed the cut off date, your service is still working. |

Good enough for you ?
There are about 6 strong CC supporters here that incessantly support CC no matter how wrong they are sometimes in my opinion. I believe it is fair that upset customers should also have a voice. The average Comcast subscriber is not a DSLr member. I'd even go as far as to say that not a single DLSr member fits the definition of an "average subscriber". |

| reply to TKJunkMail Its a terrible policy. These terms were not made upfront when you ordered the service and now they are changing them. Everyone knows the hassle in trying to change your cable service and in most places only one provider is available. So like most issued with a cable company... your screwed...either take it or move. |
