Re: Steele vs Paypal - Hoax or Not - You Make the Call said by jaa:If it were a hoax, emails would have been sent to email not associated with paypal. Anyone receive this message at one of their addresses not associated with paypal? I have had PayPal for about 8 years or so and haven't received one of these emails.... |

Blue2Premium join:2004-04-14 France kudos:1 | reply to Blue2 As stated when I started this thread, forums are buzzing about whether this email is legit because of exactly these kinds of mistakes, inconsistencies in some of the info that's been provided, and the method of communication (email) and its quality.
These further responses from Paypal and ebay demonstate how difficult it is for a user to judge whether emails received are legit or not. I hope that someone notifies the court about the irresponsibilty of Paypal and ebay. Their actions will only result in some potential claimaints assuming that this notice is a fake.
The result is that if legit companies and emails can't do better than this, don't be surprised to see a epidemic of scams as a result. |

 | reply to nwrickert said by nwrickert:Wouldn't it stand to reason that ALL paypal customers get the email regardless of when they did transactions? Not if the settlement applies only to certain types of transactions within a limited time period. I can see that logic, however, it states that: 'You may be eligible to receive a benefit from a class action settlement if you funded a PayPal transaction using a source other than your credit card between February 1, 2004 and the present.' So clearly, they have no definitive data of what process someone used and sent out a blanket email. Now, I have only used credit card but based on the wording of the email referring to a timeframe, I should have received one.
said by nwrickert:The wording of that statement is very important and creates skepticism. I have the same reaction to postal (paper mail) notices of class action suits. I think you may have misundersood my post. The wording makes it seem like a potential settlement is possibly on the horizon whereas in the reality of the here and now, the settlement has already been agreed to long ago. |

 | reply to EGeezer I just called the above number and it seems legit. The links that I received in my email have been disabled by paypal. Either they dont want us communicating with the class action or they disabled it for a good reason. ALso, it states that if you want a check mailed to you, they will deduct 1.00 from your account???? How so??? I decided that I am sending it in but with the least info possible. They do not ask for passwords so they really cant do much except bill you for 1.00 or deposit into your account by paypal name. |
