1 edit | Comcast switches CNET reader to an unlimited account??
Edit: The validity of this exchange is questionable, see HERE.
The exchange between a Comcast tech and a customer is shared in comments to a (also facinating) CNET article, HERE. The CNET article is copyrighted, but the conversation goes as follows...
Denise Donna(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:27:28 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))> Hi.
Jeff_(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:27:45 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))> I spend 61.16 per month purely for internet connection. I use Vonage, data back ups for two computers to internet sources, I utilize online streaming video. How can the MOST expensive internet connection place a limit?
Denise Donna(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:28:41 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
Your concern is regarding the limit for your internet?
Jeff_(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:28:57 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
yes
Jeff_(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:30:49 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
I signed up for unlimited usage because I need the unlimited usage. This is a change in product
Jeff_(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:33:40 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
how will I be assured that i will continue to have unlimited usage?
Denise Donna(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:34:34 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
I requested here to give your internet service an unlimited usage.
Jeff_(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:36:05 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
how do I get confirmation?
Denise Donna(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:37:18 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
I will give you a confirmation number now regarding the request.
Jeff_(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:37:38 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
good, now how do I receive confirmation that I do indeed have unlimited access?
Jeff_(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:39:03 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
thank you, by the way, how long do you assume the request will take to process? And, have you see such requests like mine approved?
Denise Donna(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:39:42 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>
Yes, infact my request has been approved. I also request my internet to be unlimited 2 weeks ago and it was approved.
Denise Donna(Thu Aug 28 2008 22:42:27 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))>

1 edit | reply to funchords Please note that initially Jeff requested unlimited "usage".
The rep confirmed that unlimited "usage" has been requested, but NEVER confirmed that unlimited "usage" has been granted, just that it was granted. Then suddenly the discussion veers toward unlimited "access" which is that weird term regarding Internet access that you cannot actually use.
Besides, if it is not in writing it is not worth anything, in my opinion.
I have chat logs with Earthlink reps saying that my usage with them through CC is not bound by any CC interference and then suddenly, it is, and CC would not acknowledge anything via a chat log. -- Treason is a matter of dates |

Not to mention the "unfettered" access that Rob could tell us about. -- Treason is a matter of dates |

Older discussion in the CC bw abuse thread where my argument regarding the unlimited usage has been deflected by this odd unlimited "access" since the connection is always on as in a difference with dial up. -- Treason is a matter of dates |

Also, have you ever chatted with Comcast on their website? Doesn't that chat log seem a little "off" to you? Usually the reps use proper "canned" responses. |

1 edit | reply to funchords Based upon the unlimited usage, I can see the following happening. After he hits the 250 gigs, CC will slow down the speed way down, and when he calls up to find out why his connection is slow, they will tell him, that he hit the bandwidth limit, but he's still getting usage of the internet because he requested unlimited usage. |

Well said. Comcastic !
I am looking forward to the jokes the FCC will take when they start looking some more into this. -- Treason is a matter of dates |

1 edit | reply to funchords said by sturmvogel :said by funchords :You know, all of the postings over the last few days have really helped me to see that this might actually be about infrastructure limitations, and that it's impossible to for any access to be fully unrestricted if it involves compromises to meet a $50 subscriber price point. Actually, you're right on this. I still hate Comcast, but I can't disagree with your logic. The Internet is so cool, you guys! |
