direcpc.com? You're on sat internet, right? You're telling me that if you had 8-10mbps DSL or 8-16mbps cable available to you - you wouldn't get it? -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| reply to dissapointed Yah I have to agree with Dadkins. I went from a 3/716 DSL connection to a 6/2 broadband connection for about the same money (annually). Watching full TV episodes full screen actually works at my new connection. Every time I can do that, it's $4 I don't have to give to Pay-per-view.
The truth is I get around 8 down and 2.5 up if I connect to my router wirelessly. Those numbers jump to 12/2.7 on average (off peak). The other thing is that is just pass through. That is not a true indication of how fast I can browse. That has more to do with my browser's behavior and the servers I'm in communication with.
Even so, overall bandwidth speed does matter, so paying more for it is not a waste. |

@direcpc.com | reply to dadkins yes i would get it i would love to get dsl or cable, but all IM saying is anything over 6 meg is a waste of money, and does nothing but cause users to use too muck bandwidth...6 meg connection downloads plenty fast enough |

| reply to dissapointed There is no capacity crisis. It's an excuse to nickel and dime by the Megabyte.
Think about it. If there really was, they wouldn't offer subscribers a virtual Ferrari with all the gasoline they would need to travel at a constant 150 MPH if they only wanted them to take a spin around the block at 35 MPH. --

| reply to dissapointed I tend to agree with you on that point. The 'average' user (not the typical BBR user) wouldn't typically notice much of a difference between a 1.5Mbps and a 10Mbps connection for going onto 'MySpace', 'Facebook', or sending/receiving emails (sure large JPGS may send/receive in 3 seconds rather than 15). To me, it typically comes down to the bottom line (not cost/Mbps, but bottom line cost). Eg. I was paying $27/month for 3Mbps/512kbps and it worked VERY well, with no complaints. The ONLY reason that I switched to TWC 6Mbps/512kbps was because I got a better overall deal on price. $89/month for Voice, HSI and TV. I'd take a 3Mbps package if it saved and extra $10/month... why not. I don't _really_ need it. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

| I download the occasional 700MB XviD movie. With a 2MB/sec(16mbps) service, they can get here in a timely manner. Like 5 minutes. Allowing for variances, lets say within 10 minutes on a bad day.
Download game demos or full games. Having a 8mbps line or higher means you can play that demo within minutes, not hours. Saying it is a waste tells us all that you have never used anything with speeds exceeding 6mbps. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| reply to dissapointed Spoiled? How so? I live in suburbia. Like... 14 miles from San Francisco in The East Bay. How close are you to civilization?
Someone in your family apparently made the decision to live away from the city buzz - so you get to use Sat. Well, that doesn't make you depraved, does it? YOU would be considered spoiled with your speeds by some of my relatives - Sat is not doable for them.

CylonRed Premium,MVM join:2000-07-06 Bloom County | I was a beta tester for America's Army - last install I had to down load was a gig - took 5-6 hours - did it over night. Most installs were at least 350 megs - took about 4 hours. No biggie and files that are 40-50 megs are less than 1 hour. |

| reply to dadkins no I have not,nor will I ever even if I could.I don't waste my time playing games.I don't need a connection more than 2 or 3 meg.like i said before any more than that is a waste. It sux that they keep pushing more speed where they already have fast connections, and don't worry about their rural customer's that have dialup and that's it.very bad for business because tellcos are loosing more and more voice customer's to voip,as i cancelled my at&t voice service today. They better start worrying about extending their dsl because before long that will be all they have |

| reply to boast said by boast :or the cost of seeing a popup flash advertisement You know, you have a great point! Why should I have to 'spend' my limited bandwith on an advertisement I didn't request to download?
I think there is a new issue for Congress to take up...maybe similar to the "Do Not Call" list, a "DO NOT ADVERTISE VIA WEB PAGE" list.
I don't want my valuable bits used up and costing me money when I go over my limit because some stupid advertiser shoves an ad down my limited bandwith! |
