| [TWC] Picture extends beyond screen size - all channels
I first noticed this about a week ago, and I know something has changed, but I don't know what or why.
Let's see if I can explain properly... When viewing any channel (SD or HD), the picture appears "zoomed" so that there is clearly missing information beyond the edges of the TV screen. So, it looks like people's heads are cut off at their forehead, and things like the little channel logos are not visible.
I checked my tv settings, and am pretty convinced it is not the culprit. I have also noticed that the guide is not cut off in any way, plus the preview screen does show the entire view. This further tells me that it is not the TV.
My box is the 8300HDC. The front screen has the "Auto" and "1080i" lights on all the time. When on an actual HD channel, the "HDTV" light is also on. The connection is HDMI.
I even tried a different HDMI input on the TV, plus the Component Inputs. No difference. I have a widescreen 1080p lcd tv.
Anyone else experience this? Anything else I should try?
Thanks. |

| I am not sure which remote you use, but the button to the right of the "0" is usually a ZOOM button. It may be a # symbol or it may actually say "ZOOM" on it. There is likely three settings there: Normal, Zoom, and Stretch. Set it to stretch, if you prefer your SD channels to fill the entire screen, or to normal if you do not mind the 4:3 bars on the sides. You can do this by hitting the button repeatedly until your preferred setting is set. If that is the fix, just be careful of hitting that button again. |

| I've looked at the cable box remote, and didn't see anything that would indicate a zoom feature. It is a silver remote, where the top is power buttons, then guide/navigation buttons, then volume / channel buttons, then DVR buttons, then number buttons, and finally PIP controls.
Plus, the TV settings appear correct.
When it was working correctly before, the HD channels would come through as 1080i and appear correct. The SD channels came through as 480, and the TV would scale them to fill. Like I said, now it seems the 1080i is always on, and all channels show this problem. It is almost like the box is somehow sending 1080i information, but the TV thinks it is 480, so scaling it up. However, this would make more sense if it were just the SD channels that were affected. I don't understand why the HD channels also show the problem. |

| reply to Zupper Does the button to the right of the "0" button have a "#" symbol beside it? Did you try it?
As far as the box showing 1080i all of the time, there should be a way to correct this in the menu. Do you know what OS the box is running? SARA? PASSPORT? MYSTRO? |

| reply to Zupper Thanks MadMANN!
Upon closer inspection, the # key says "Aspect" above it. That pretty much did the trick. There was another setting in the menu that I had to put back, but eventually got it back to normal.
The kids are just learning how to use the remote, so I'm sure they inadvertantly did it. At least now I know.
Thanks! |
