| reply to gate1975mlm Well, I downloaded it, installed it, and thought it was a pretty stable, and fast browser. But.... strangely enough after installing it and using it for a few hours, I had some weird system lockups, and mouse responses on my computer, almost like a resource problem. I checked out things and it wasn't like ANYTHING was out of the ordinary. I then looked in the process window, and saw the "google update" running. Just for the hell of it I disabled the google update, and things were okay on my system again....of course the next time I re-booted google update ran automatically again, even though I disabled it in the start up, and the same weired system things started going on once again. Ive since uninstalled Goggle Chrome, and everything is good once more. Has anyone else seen this happen since installing Chrome? |

4 edits | reply to norky An updater that starts on system bootup should tell you that there is already an update available at that point.
On other programs, when you select "check for update", THAT is when the updater checks ... and then closes again. Other programs will automatically check for updates too, but only when you are running them.
But Chrome's updater runs at system bootup and continues as long as your computer is running ... whether you even use Chrome or not.
And according to Paul928, he disabled the updater in his System Startup menu because the Updater was causing weird things in his pc in general ... but it seems after he disabled the Updater (system level) and ran Chrome again, it rewrote the Updater to run on System Startup again.
Whats up with that?
*EDIT I also have Google Earth installed and that used the updater too. But (afaik) the updater did not start on system bootup ... it only ran at program level... and closed afterwards. Someone who is running Google Earth and not Chrome would have to verify this. -- EasyList filter subscriptions for Adblock Plus |

| reply to gate1975mlm I don't like that I can not have a bookmark on the Bookmarks bar and a folder so and I open either MSNBC or all of my news sites at once. I have found that the http address has to be slightly different to do this. Is there a way to make any http address slightly different and still have it work? -- Gary in South Carolina --For a list of all the ways technology has failed to improve the quality of life, please press three. |
