Ugh, downloaded it and installed, now wished I hadn't.
This thing acts like spyware.

It most likely is just like their toolbar is every search you make goes back to them and they are keeping records of your searchs!!!

Does not import, and does not offer to import, Mozilla html bookmarks files.
Hmm, it imported my Firefox stuff (and offered) on first boot. Worked great.
I don't use Firefox.

Apparently it will ONLY import from Firefox and IE. Users of other browsers are screwed. If Firefox is not installed it will only offer to import IE favorites. Sucky.

It crashed on me on the second site I tried. My blog, actually. Perhaps it was just a fluke. Looks light and fast, but I don't expect to change from FF just yet, if at all.

I'd like to see what Google plans to do with this, tho.

Well, Mozilla's final release (1.7.13) was in April of 2006, almost 2.5 years ago, so perhaps they considered it a deprecated browser and that's why they didn't create the possibility to import from it.

Uninstalled, no thanks Google.
Watch when un-installing it does not like to go easy, the google updater to be exact, does not go quietly. Beware!

With 10 tabs open
Chrome = 181mb
Firefox 3 = 94mb
That's a deal breaker for me! IE7 is running about 33 meg on this machine right now.

Interesting reading some of the thoughts around the wb. They range from "this is the best thing since pizza" to "beware the attack of the spider monkey". It is the 1st beta and will be in beta for years if standard Google paterns hold true. Doubt I will ever try this because to me Google is just a search engine and that is all I need them for. If they bar my browser no biggy as there are other search engines worthy of my viewing.

Yeah... Learned this the hard way. I uninstalled Chrome and GoogleUpdate.exe is still around and it still phones home to check for updates. As far as I know, the only way to "uninstall" it is to remove the registry entries for it manually and uncheck the msconfig run at start up option, on top of deleting the exe. Is there a real way to uninstall this that I'm missing?

Mozilla suite's not the only browser to use html bookmarks. Firefox did up til 3, and can still export to the format. And SeaMonkey's still alive and kicking. It's quite common among alternative browsers (even outside the Mozilla family) to export, if not outright use, html bookmarks.

There's no good reason for Chrome to disable the importing of HTML bookmarks if Firefox is not installed.

Hrm, or does it import directly from FF3's sqlite database? CAN it read HTML bookmarks at all? Has anyone imported bookmarks from 2.x?

I can't get into the G-Mail standard HTML version either (»https://mail.google.com/mail/h/).

Strangely, if I right-click I can view source on the blank white page and get the source:

For whatever reason, it just won't render this into a webpage. I don't get it. I guess it can't be a proxy issue if I'm getting the source.

Found and removed.
No sign of the service, probably wasn't installed. XP 32bit SP3 here.

I thought that too then I did a search from windows and typed GoogleUpdate.exe and then it showed like it was hidden. I wonder if it was the task that added it.....hmmmm

Another thing to note is this googleupdater has a plethora of registry entries. I feel all dirty but at last I can say its clean.
