| bandwidth limits? I am currently a Comcast customer thinking I will be making the switch to Speakeasy here in the next week or two. I'm qualified for their 15/1 package and will be ordering that. My only concern is that I've read in some of the reviews here that Speakeasy actually has more strict bandwidth usage caps (100GB?) than Comcast, but the reviews seem to be mixed.
I have never had any trouble with Comcast, but my guess is that I easily exceed 100GB/month of bandwidth. I'd assumed since the speakeasy package is $180/month, it would be less restrictive. Is this not the case? Are there set limits for Speakeasy? I'm not someone who uses their internet 100% 24/7, but I don't want to have any issues with Speakeasy.

| I would not come close to that cap but they do not have any that I know of although they did release a new TOS - not sure if caps are mentioned at all but the TOS can be read online...

Cant use your connection full speed for days on end. Really the only limit. | |

| tdumaine is correct... there is no "cap" for usage, but if you are running 100% for days on end, you may end up getting a phone call.

They are laying off employees left and right (I myself was let go a few months ago). When you have your CFO and CMO resign for positions with other businesses within a week of each other, the writing in on the friggin wall.
I can recall one specific instance where a marketing employee directly told a group of us that we are NO LONGER AN ISP, BUT A VOIP COMPANY WHO ALSO OFFERS CONNECTIVITY.
It's a shame, really. It was a fun place to work. The employees were awesome. Management, not so much.
Get smart, quit paying $65 a month for 1.5M/786Kbps and find another alternative.
What benefit is there to being a Speakeasy customer? It's overpriced, support has gone down the toilet, and the technology is archaic. | |

I'm also a long-time customer. I've had my service for over 6 years and have had virtually no connection issues, ever. I also have Netshare and provide connection to several neighbors. This cuts my cost greatly.
I have other alternatives, but until, as a customer, I see otherwise, I will continue my course. Two more Netshare clients and I'll upgrade to 15x1 service. I am pre-qualified. (The CO is three blocks from my home.) | |

| I hope the free hardware isn't a BritePort modem. It is junk. Worse, once you accept that "free" modem, you are stuck with speakeasy for a year. I just finished an edit to my speakeasy page regarding replacing my BritePort with a 2wire 2701HG-B. Much better quality and about $40 used. | |

I was terminated for using my connection nearly constantly. The thing is, I TOLD THEM THIS IS WHAT I WOULD BE DOING, and in pre-sales chats, they told me using 100% of my bandwidth 100% of the time was acceptable.

| I used over 500GB last month and heard nothing from Speakeasy. Perhaps your problem is area specific?
On the other hand, I'm on a significantly more expensive/faster circuit than yours (ADSL2, 15mbit/1mbit), so it could be that limits are in place for their lower tiers. Sucks that they would lie to you like that, I definitely wouldn't pay that ETF. | |
