Accessing non-sbc SMPT email server through SBCGLOBAL

Please help!!!!

I am trying desperately to access my DSLEXTREME smtp email server though SBCGLOBAL DSL Service. I am at a friends house, he has SBCGLOBAL, I am hardwired to his 2WIRE 2701HG-B DSL modem.

Using MS OUTLOOK I can receive but not send email. I receive the following message --

Task 'mail.dslextreme.com - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

All my OUTLOOK setting are the same as I have always used.

PLEASE!!!! ANY HELP ?????? Firewall settings?

Thanks in advance,

marcad

If DSLextreme is using the ports 25/110 for access I believe port 25 is blocked by service default. Your friend can request this to be unblocked but he would have to request it. When he requests it he will have to wait till he gets the confirmation e-mail. Once he gets that he will have to restart all broadband equipment and pull a new IP address. THat new IP address will allow traffic then.

however you might try and see if dslextreme allows the secure ports (I think 495/587 if memory serves) and go that route.
