Linksys CM100 Modem "Unlimited Provisioning"

I just got a new CM100 modem and it is working with Comcast. But the status page shows the download and upload provisioning as unlimited.

I have seen others on Comcast post their provisioning page showing values like 17.6 down, 2.2 Mb up Blast etc.

Does anyone know why mine says unlimited? I should be set up for Blast.

Your modem seems to be uncapped at the moment.

How can you assume that without seeing a few speed tests?

It can take up to 24 hours for the modem to be provisioned correctly.

My speed tests here and at several other sites are running at 16-18 Mb down and about 1500-1600 up. Now and then download goes over 20 Mb which I assume is Powerboost.

Would a modem be allowed to be online with a config file that doesn't have any speed caps configured ?

I don't know. I think there has to be some type of number in the config file. Chances are his modem is provisioned correctly, but his modem just doesn't see the provisioned speeds yet (as in, read them from the config file).

Adelphia used to do that, before they were taken over by TWC. The provisioned speeds were set at the CMTS.

It was a security measure against hacking, among other things.

O/k Mac, but I don't believe that CC typically utilizes this practice.

Adelphia was the only one I've seen do it and it was for a limited time, for the last year or two before being broken up. It surprised me when I first saw it.

I've seen similar behavior with a CM100 on cox. It seems that the provisioned field sometimes doesn't show the right things despite caps being sent to it. For example, I have a 15/2 tier but provisioned speeds are reported as 300/300.

I've read a few things about Comcast HSI users seeing the same behavior. If you're seeing the speeds you're supposed to, odds are it's ok. If you aren't, something definitely is strange. If you're seeing better, I'd keep my mouth shut!

Folks on Cox HSI have also noted that the CM100 reports 300/300, even though they are provisioned for higher speeds. Perhaps this is a problem that will be corrected if/when Linksys releases a firmware update for this model.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. Yes my speeds are fine and according to comcast the file in the modem is..extreme2.. So perhaps things will show up sooner or later.
