mjmsrPremium join:2001-08-25 Lombard, IL | Avast and which firewall? Hello Gang,
I just removed Norton 360 and placed Avast on the Vista64 System.
I am confident all will go fine, however, is Windows firewall sufficient or should I use an 3rd party firewall?
I want something NOT complicated, simple and small...free ia always nice but a little $$ is ok too!
Thanks Mike |

At least install Zone Alarm and then if you wish try other firewalls. -- This post printed on 100% recycled bytes |

My 2 cents Comodo. I run it with Avast and have no problems at all on XP Pro SP3. -- "In the future, that which is not mandatory will be illegal" |

I've tried Online Armor (nice), PcTools (decent), and Comodo (tied with OA for me). Personally I prefer Comdo, but those three will provide a nice layer of defense. Do you have a router with NAT capabilities? If so that might be all you need, unless you are wanting program specific control. |

All seems good so far!
Thanks for the help!

Re: My 2 cents Same here. Comodo works fine on Vista, Vista SP1, XP SP2 and XP SP3 all with Avast.
I have Norton 360 Version 2 on a couple of machines and it has been fine also The Norton firewall is effective and SILENT. The AV seems fine. However Norton replaces Comodo's constant firewall access user prompts with annoying interactions for scans that all should be unobtrusively running in the background.
I recommend either Comodo with Avast or Norton 360. -- regards,

Re: Avast and which firewall? I don't have Vista, but I run Avast with the free Comodo and on another box with Kerio. |

mjmsrPremium join:2001-08-25 Lombard, IL | I do have a router. I just installed Comodo and all sems good except the bbot up time is a bit longer - otherwise seems ok. I might just remove Comodo and see if I can see a performance difference.
Good to know I really do not need more than a router and windows f/w....
Thanks Mike |

 | reply to mjmsr Avast has a firewall, so you might want to check out, first. Another thing I like about Avast is the VRDB. Right click on the icon and look for where it says, VRDB and read about it.
BTW, just a little detail -- if you get two icons, you can right click one and tell it to merge with the other. |

 | said by mjmsr:I cannot find any info on Avast firewall??? Probably referring to Avast's Network Shield.... if not, then there's nothing else even remotely resembling a firewall in Avast.... |

I thought there might have been a mistake there.
