price change?

u-voice just became availible here (it wasnt 2 weeks ago) and I see its $30 unlimited. Anyways I thought I had read here it was normaly $40. Although the $50 for a setup fee is kinda making me think twice

Looks like they are lowering the price. I just signed up for U-Voice for $30 unlimited and the install fee was waived.

I was thinking about switching, but in order to port your number, you have to do it when you order. I would prefer to try it out for a month or so before I port over. The lower price is nice, but still twice what I pay now. At least it's more in line with Vonage now.

How is it twice as much as Vonage? Vonage unlimited is $24.99 last I checked. Remember with Vonage your packets hit the public internet right way so QoS doesn't really exist. Where with U-Voice, Comcast Digital Voice, etc they keep in the network as long as possible so they can control the QoS. You don't have to share your internet connection with it.

What exactly is the $50 for? if its just to activate service that seem a lil high.

You should be able to get it waived. They basically have to come out and hook the RG up to the internal house wiring and install the battery backup/ups.

No you misunderstood.....

I never said twice as much as Vontage, I said almost twice what I pay now. (Viatalk $16/mo) I had Vonage once, for a very short time! I like the fact, as you said, you dont have to share the internet. I can drop to 6/1 from 10/1.5 Since I wont need the extra bandwidth and get U-voice and pay about the same as I am now.

When I called today, she had no problem waiving the install fee. Just ask!

ya I'll call and see if they will wave the fee since I have only had u-verse a few weeks and voice wasnt even availible when I signed up. as far as being $5 a month more than vonage it still seems worth it for the dedicated bandwidth and battery backup
