Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if Techs had something more than basic knowledge of a computer as they hook it up the internet. Every time i had a tech over i feel like some more than basic computer skills and knowledge would be greatly appreciated as I'm an advanced user
As a field tech troubleshooting TV, HSD and phone service I have to tell you that not only I am not encouraged but I am strictly told not to troubleshoot computer issues beyond making sure that

Networking options are set up properly and the modem is plugged in (via ethernet or USB)

I consider myself somewhat computer-savvy and I build my own PCs and also help my friends with hardware installs and spyware infections but I will not risk my job to fix your computer problem. I also carry a laptop and a small TV in my truck just for these purposes. So I can show you it's your equipment that's causing a problem.

I have no doubt this lady made threats. Some people just FREAK out. Several years ago one of my coworkers had to call dispatch (without the customer knowing, just dialed the number and left it on) and he was lucky she could hear the customer yelling so she sent the cops over.

If your an advanced user, why would you want or need someone else touching your computer at all?

Try being a DirecTV Tech, out on a service call, for a customer u never installed for, to fix a shotty install, and after doing so, suddenly the husband appears out of nowhere when the wife says he was sleeping. And the husband is decked out in his full police uniform, gun and all, and is sweating bullets (nop pun intended) dropping curse words and cornering you against the house where the dish is at, a retaing wall and him. with the conversation escalating, he then walks inside to see the outher work you did and calls u in and starts going off that it aint good enough, and demands that u not leave till its fixed the way he likes, and when u go to ur truck to get ur tools he pulls out a gun on ya as if ya trying to flee?
I have no idea what your story has to do with this article. Those certainly weren't the facts presented in this case. Your own experiences have nothing to do with it.

It's not the ISPs responsibility to maintain and fix her PC and often ISP techs only have basic computer skills
In fact, not only doesn't the ISP have the responsibility to fix and maintain users' computers, but touching them at all (outside of normal hook up/disconnect procedures) could result in liability on the ISP's part. The customer's computer could get messed up later and the customer could blame the ISP. Even if the ISP wasn't really to blame, the ISP could get bad PR and possibly even sued over the issue. Much better to just tell technicians not to touch customer's computers at all.

Give me a break, do the job right and stop giving people the run around and there wont be any problems.
Except when the problem is with the computer and not the connection. But then you have idiots like this who refuse to believe that something could be wrong the PC because "my computer is new" or "it was working fine before." It's not the ISPs responsibility to maintain and fix her PC and often ISP techs only have basic computer skills as being an advanced PC user really is not required to install cable and DSL lines

People are nuts, I fully believe she threatened the tech as I've been threatened plenty of times.
How does the fact that you've been threatened at all have any effect on what happened here? I've never been mugged, but I can still believe someone when it happens to them.
Try to think about it. People keep posting that the guy just lied and left which shows how well people think of technicians. It makes no difference if its a woman, if someone is acting like they have a gun its not something to ignore de to bunny slippers.

How the hell do you know he didn't do his job right? I don't care if it were a 90 year old woman with a gun. Assumptions maybe?
