(I don't think the test discriminates between different $ plans or different service areas which have different speeds available.) |

| reply to treedoc hi. thanks for the response. i get TDS DSL. i live out in the boonies of WI. took them over 10 yrs just to get the service here. for some reason i actually have 2 connection icons on my desktop. one is a LAN, wireless network connection (which is unavailable. i am not wireless, yet). and the other is 'Network 3'. Access: Local and Internet. it's when i go into this network it tells me that my speed is only 100.0 mps and i'm paying for 300.0 mps. when the technician did the test he told me my connection speed was 3.2. when i did the test it told me my download was better than average, but, my upload speed was 44% worse than 100 and some other testers for my area. it does seem to take forever sometimes to load pages and images. do i need both these connections out there? i do plan on going wireless, but not anytime soon as winter is getting here and i have a 17' Toshiba laptop (less than 4 months old). can be a bit for dragging around.) another thing that bothers me is that i may be paying for a service i am NOT receiving. thanks for any enlightenment you can give me! |

I think this is a typo in your post; unless you are paying thousands of dollars a month, I don't think anyone is paying for 300 mbps here, yet. If it's not a typo, let me know if there is any property available around you as I'm moving ASAP!!!
The 100 mbps your computer is showing you refers to your lan speed between your computer and your dsl modem over the lan cable, not the dsl speed over the phone line.

Can you do the speedtest at speedtest.tds.net or www.testmy.net or www.speedtest.net (all are different speed tests that will give slightly different results as all take different approaches to try and give you a good simulated measurement of real world performance) and post the results here as well as which plan you subscribe to (up and down advertised speeds) -- Very happy TDS DSL user | Wildblue in Lake Michigan |
