Sounds odd.<br><br>We bought the SB5100 about two years ago after Rogers kept telling us they were going to discontinue and disconnect our old Cybersurfer modem.  Even though we bought our modem and returned the old one we still get a modem charge added to our monthly bill. We did call to ask about it but were told that they cannot remove it. Don't really know why.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/539077"><b>sbrook</b></A> : The current model Webstar being promoted by Rogers is the DPC 2100, the previous modem was the DPX 2100<br><br>There were problems with the firmware in some DPX 2100 modems where the modem would essentially die if it overflowed its buffers and have to be turned off and restarted.<br><br>I wouldn't go for it by choice.  Moreover, if you find one for sale, you've no idea if Rogers will enable it since you didn't buy it from Rogers.]]></description>

Came home, called the number on the box.<br><br>3. The CSR asked my account number with Rogers and Serial number of the new modem. (Nobody asked MAC address to my surprise).<br><br>4. CSR said that the new modem will be activated as soon as old one gets returned.<br><br>5. Went to nearest Rogers Video, returned the modem.<br><br>6. Came back home and plugged the new modem. It went online no problem.<br><br>7. Received my first bill with credit already applied (payment due: 0.00 Balance -70.something)<br><br>I think you got something messed up there with those numbers on the box and in the reality. May be somebody put the wrong sticker on the box?]]></description>

You just seem to always get throught to the wrong team and they have to requeue you.<br><br>Anyhow, it's done now...phew.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/539077"><b>sbrook</b></A> : I bought my modem when it was the only way to get Extreme ... and it has more than paid for itself and cost us only $69 in their Extreme startup test promo.<br><br>It's now just over 4 years old ... about 30 months at $5 per month (rental charge) and then the rest at $3 per month.  So that's about $150 + 60 = $210 ... so, I could have bought 3 modems at the price I paid, and 2 at the normal price ... and it has operated without a hitch.<br><br>I won't replace it until DOCSIS 3.0 comes out unless I have to.<br><br>I'd be a little reluctant to have anyone buy at $100 if you're a real "speed freak" (not necessarily a high data transfer freak!!!) because it will take nearly 3 years to pay for itself compared to rental, and DOCSIS 3 is sure to come out before then (I hope!).]]></description>

It was me who previously indicated that the manufacture's date on the modem I bought is 03/08.  These are not refurbish; as well, the modem comes with a one-year warranty covered by Rogers.  Rogers will replace within the first year if anything goes wrong.  I tend to agree with Sbrook, probably an manufactures overstock.  Sounds more logical. :D]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1557246"><b>SALAMANCA</b></A> : Just arrived in having been out since 9:30 a.m. this morning travelling between stores.<br><br>Future Shop at Yonge/Dundas is completely sold out of the 'Grab and Go' deal, as is Yonge/Eglinton.  Both these stores don't know when they will be getting a shipment of them in.  The promotion has been running for the past two weeks.<br><br>Went to Best Buy at Yonge/Dundas, got the last 'Grab and Go' modem.  Best Buy will be ordering more in.  The free router, valued at $49.99, is only exclusive to The Future Shop.  Not too concerned about not getting the router.<br><br>Came home, called Rogers, modem  is activated and the $100.00 has been immediately applied to my bill, and no rental fees to appear on my bills.]]></description>

It's the promotional department at Rogers.  <br><br>The deal is legit.  There is no catch.  The modem can be purchased at Best Buy, Future Shop, The Source, etc.  It's called a <i><b>Grab and Go</i></b> deal.  Once the modem is purchased you call Rogers and Rogers <i><b>will</i></b> credit your account back $100.00 on the purchase of the modem.  However, the free Wireless N Router is exclusive only at Future Shop.  If you don't require a wireless modem, you still get the $100.00 credited back to your Rogers bill towards the purchase of the modem.  The <i><b>Grab and Go</i></b> deal is for new and existing Rogers customer's.<br><br>The CSR I spoke to indicated that the deal is an opportunity for all customer's to purchase their modems as opposed to renting the modem, hence, saving on the monthly rental fee.]]></description>

A female employee was carrying a box and asked if I needed help and still kept going, so I had to run after her while asking about the modem thing - she said they don't have it anymore and are sold out. <br><br>So don't waste your time and brain cells.<br><br>P.S. My plan was to buy the modem and by doing that eliminate rental fee and possibly upgrade to Lite (currently I am on Ultra-Lite) but I guess it is not happening. I hope I will never have to go to FS anymore.]]></description>

They weren't even near each other at the FS here in Moncton. No signs posting the deal or anything. The sales guy I talked to said they have had a few calls about the deal. I just called to get the amount credited to my account and wasn't even asked for the serial number - I told her I already own a modem and bought this 1 as a spare. <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1466443"><b>kliles</b></A> : I actually <u>had</u> read several pages of the drivel known as "the link provided" and it sure wasn't clear to me what the nature of the deal really was.<br><br>I went to the local FS and got their last one. The sales guy explained the drill: call the number, give them the new modem serial number (its a Scientific Atlanta WebSTAR DPC2100R2) and it is then READY to run. You have to then return your existing modem to a Rogers outlet where the return will trigger the activation of the new modem. <br><br>By the time I got home from returning the old modem, the new one was running just fine.<br><br>The FS sales guy thought the rebate would be after 3 months, but in fact the telephone rep said she credited my account $113.99 (so I made $1) and my monthly bill will drop by $3.<br><br>The FS guy said they had about 30 or so and I have the last one.  <br><br>The router was just off the shelf Dlink DIR-615<br><br>so far, so good. ]]></description>
