How do I do this - block PopUps on this particular site?

FireFox can blocks most of the popups :P, however in certain situations such as this one, can someone please tell me if it's possible to block the popus?
1) When visiting certain download sites such as Gigabites/Rapidshare/Uploads to/SendSpace, there is usually a "button" that I must click in order for the download to begin and sometimes I can "right click" the "button" to get a "save target as" and thus can avoid any popups (such as on SendSpace), however on Gigabytes site, there is NO such option to "right click" to get the "save target as" and I must click on the "download button" in order for the download to begin, and this is where the popups come from..once I click the "download button" popups would appear....how do/or can I avoid this type of popups? The popups is always from this site www.pixilis.com (208.82.122.8) and even I put this site in my host file (127.0.0.1), it doesn't help.

This may be the same problem you are having.

Have links to these "Gigabites" & "Uploads to"?

I recall that on certain download sites (but not which particular sites) - that require JavaScript, I would, or used to get popups or another page opening.

Never really cared. Just looked at it as the cost of using the service (otherwise free). To me, it was simply a matter of closing a window.

I don't recall that happening recently?

So perhaps a filter in Adblock Plus or NoScript (in Mozilla browsers) was catching/killing/preventing that particular popup.

There is one site (again I don't really pay attention to which) where when I alt+click a download link (alt+click being used by the FlashGot extension), I am sent two download links. One being a page that would otherwise open, the other being the actual download. Knowing what is happening, & expecting it, I simply dismiss the webpage link & proceed with the actual download I was wanting.

therube , you know what you are talking about...hmmmm, you must be a smart guy . ABP and Element helper couldn't help, even if I disabled *.js on that site, I would still get "blank" popups (all contents of the popups are blocked by ADP + host file), so Iwould get blank popups with FireFox informing me "could not display"!

Thanks MarkAW, nothing to do with CiD/spy/nasty/hijack etc, just simple .js triggered popups.

Thanks all.

I know of a BitTorrent site that pulls this stunt when
you first browse any of the categories. Blocking javascript
prevents them from loading properly. That site is
Sumotorrent, which I never go to anymore because of this
behavior. Fenopy, owned by the same people, likely does
the same thing. Even putting the site that is opened in
the other window or tab into the hosts file doesn't stop
the site from opening it.

Edit: it seems to me that with the right filter, Proxomitron
might stop it. But that program is very complicated to use.

Ad Muncher (payware, USD 24.30) is doing the same (and a lot more).
I have a licensed version, and never regretted the purchase. BTW, standard settings are fine for the noob, the experienced user have even more fun with the program
