It's sad but if the internet was to fail I'd open up the New York Times Sunday Edition and get the fax machine out. Do it the old fashion way. I'd get my fax machine out and then discover that it doesn't work because the internet is down, And then pick up the phone to try to call a bomb threat to the ISP then to only notice the phone doesn't work because the damn intenet is down.

They are POTS devices (means they require a dial tone from regular traditional phone service). Some Fax machines may partially work on a VoIP connection if the provider offers the right codecs needed for Fax.

And if you really are serious about calling in any threats, you should get the treatment the woman received.
