Many sellers dump overstocks, biz closeouts, tax sale items and have hundreds or thousands of items.

Most are good and ship quick. Some will miss an item and need prodding to get them to look why an item has not shipped.

I had one seller do that recently. He was selling a bunch of metalwork tools and had a chuck for my unique lathe. No ship notice, no reply to messages or emails. After 2 weeks, opened a PayPal dispute. I stay away from consumer devices. Mainly tools, welding supplies, network equip, and parts for my old motorcycles, lawn mowers etc.

Probably 1 in 50 auctions have some screw up. Usually wrong number of items. In almost every case, the seller responds immediately, apologizes and corrects the problem by shipping missing items and usually adds extras.

I had one seller ship to the wrong buyer. He notified me immediately, apologized and kept me informed. When he found the wrong buyer was going to take weeks to ship back, he refunded my money and a little extra for my trouble. He spent a lot of effort on $9 of bolts and screws that he was probably losing money on.

Good to hear you got it resolved. Sometimes you need to prod them though.
anon : Sometimes this can happen if a sellers account has been hacked or if competitor sellers flag your listings as trademark violations. Ebay will cancel all listings including old listings. Then the ebay will lock the seller our of the account. Sending messages through ebay will usually not reach the seller. If your seller does volume transactions as you say, you will get your item 99% of the time. That what botheruing me.

When you say "they've been paid," how did you fund your PayPal account? With a PayPal balance? From a bank account?

I ask because the best way to fund your PayPal payments is via credit card. That way, if PayPal can't/won't refund your money, you can simply do a chargeback.

From what I've been told, PayPal will not close your PayPal account after a chargeback if you first file a dispute, which gives them a chance to try to recover the funds from the seller, first. But you want the ability to do a chargeback as a last resort because otherwise you're entirely at the mercy of PayPal.

Of course, one of the more irritating aspects of PayPal is that they do their best to talk users out of funding payments with a credit card. You have to go through this completely stupid rigamarole to not only indicate that, yes, you want to pay via CC, (this after you've already told them so) but then PayPal wastes even more time by making you click through a page of the entirely nonexistent "advantages" of using a bank account rather than a CC.

This despite the fact that only PayPal actually benefits from your using a PayPal balance/bank account to fund a purchase. A CC-funded purchase means they have to pay a merchant fee to the CC company (the horror!).

At any rate, you really do not want to use PayPal in conjunction with anything other than a Credit Card if you can help it. Otherwise, if PayPal doesn't give you back your money, you are going to be SOL.

meister_sd : A few years ago, I was selling Microsoft software on ebay. Microsoft b*tched about the legitimacy of the software and the auction was taken down. I tried to contact MS, via ebay and never received and answer back and kept trying with no luck. I emailed ebay and told them MS wasn't answering and relisted it. This was a Buy It Now with multiple items, and after the auction ended (they went fast), ebay sent out one of those letters. I ended up sending long emails to the buyers to assure them of the item and one lady declined shipment so I refunded her. The others has already shipped or was about to. The items that shipped, the buyers liked it and wished they could still leave positive feedback.

The point is, if you and the seller are in contact - go with your gut. For one reason or another, I've given my cell phone number to buyers that had questions or problems and this type of communication really goes a long way. If you don't hear from this seller then you need to protect yourself as soon as possible. If you paid by paypal, start the dispute now... You can always cancel it if you are happy with your item.

ebay and paypal can really suck and screw one side or the other without recourse. There are many sites out there telling of horror stories of both companies and many seem like they are telling the truth. Most people are honest sellers/buyers so treat them that way until you have a reason not to believe that. The best defense for either a buyer or seller is to keep good records of the transaction.

anon : hi. as long as you paid thru PP you will get your money back within a week or so. i've been on ebay since 1999. only 3 times have i had problems. once was a long time ago before ebay bought PP. that was a complete loss. but i've filed 2 disputes within the last 6 months and rec'd my money back within 2 weeks on both accounts. if you paid by check, M.O. or cash thru ebay and the seller doesn't want to co-operate you may as well kiss it good bye. that's why i 'usually' buy insurance (depending on the seller). almost all powersellers have bad feedback. it's to be expected. when you sell 10000-100000 or more items, not everybody can be pleased. i usually read the bad feedback and see what it was all about. one thing i've found, is that most of the bad feedback comes from 'newbies'. i usually don't pay attention to that. a buyer with 4-500 or more feedback i will take notice of if they leave a negative. good luck!! ;)

If you have purchased from this seller previously and did not experience any difficulties, you should be alright.
caddyroger : Aug 30 I bought an item from ebay. Today I got a email from ebay and PayPal this morning stating that the item listing was removed. This is the first of the email.

Unfortunately, eBay has removed this . All bids or offers on this listing have been canceled. Because the listing was ended, you no longer have any obligation to purchase this item.

This guy had a 2800 power seller and 98.6% rating
Does any know what this means. Hopefully it don't mean I lost my money. I did call PayPal and they sent me the directions to file a dispute.

(Edit spelling)
--
Caddy
