I was recently (yesterday) trying to find a nice camcorder. The best eBay dealer was called "time2envy". I googled his name and found SEVERAL posts of people complaining about him.

I still wanted to buy from him and get the GREAT DEAL. I even called their store, sounded fine on the phone.

I have bought many things of ebay (over 200 feedbacks.) Some sellers lose things in the warehouse. Many sellers dump overstocks, biz closeouts, tax sale items and have hundreds or thousands of items.

Most are good and ship quick. Some will miss an item and need prodding to get them to look why an item has not shipped.

I had one seller do that recently. He was selling a bunch of metalwork tools and had a chuck for my unique lathe. No ship notice, no reply to messages or emails. After 2 weeks, opened a PayPal dispute. Next day get a response it will ship "monday". It was actually shipped on Wednesday with a tracking number. Received item and closed dispute. Left no feedbak.

I buy a lot on ebay. I stay away from consumer devices. Mainly tools, welding supplies, network equip, and parts for my old motorcycles, lawn mowers etc.

Probably 1 in 50 auctions have some screw up. Usually wrong number of items. In almost every case, the seller responds immediately, apologizes and corrects the problem by shipping missing items and usually adds extras.

I had one seller ship to the wrong buyer. He notified me immediately, apologized and kept me informed. When he found the wrong buyer was going to take weeks to ship back, he refunded my money and a little extra for my trouble. He spent a lot of effort on $9 of bolts and screws that he was probably losing money on.

Good to hear you got it resolved. Sometimes you need to prod them though. In most cases, they are very helpful.

My auction was canceled becuase I was selling product A which was compatible with product B. I also had a picture of product A and B however ebay thought it was keyword spamming and canceled the auctio and refunded my listing fees. I went ahead and made it right and relisted it and everything was fine.

When you say "they've been paid," how did you fund your PayPal account? With a PayPal balance? From a bank account?

I ask because the best way to fund your PayPal payments is via credit card. That way, if PayPal can't/won't refund your money, you can simply do a chargeback.

From what I've been told, PayPal will not close your PayPal account after a chargeback if you first file a dispute, which gives them a chance to try to recover the funds from the seller, first. But you want the ability to do a chargeback as a last resort because otherwise you're entirely at the mercy of PayPal.

Of course, one of the more irritating aspects of PayPal is that they do their best to talk users out of funding payments with a credit card. You have to go through this completely stupid rigamarole to not only indicate that, yes, you want to pay via CC, (this after you've already told them so) but then PayPal wastes even more time by making you click through a page of the entirely nonexistent "advantages" of using a bank account rather than a CC.

This despite the fact that only PayPal actually benefits from your using a PayPal balance/bank account to fund a purchase. A CC-funded purchase means they have to pay a merchant fee to the CC company (the horror!).

At any rate, you really do not want to use PayPal in conjunction with anything other than a Credit Card if you can help it. eBay will or can remove a listing if all you do is use one word that is not allowed... a trade name, or description, just about anything...

Say for example, you are selling a blanket and you say it's "like Beacon Bay"... boom, the auction gets pulled. I had one of my guys email Bose about this and they said that the main reason they reported to eBay is that their pictures are being used without their written consent. We took pictures of the products on our own and the listings were not touched at all since then.

So as you can see, there are variety of reasons why eBay remove the listing. What did you buy? I do know that it's very easy to get your listing removed if you sell M$ products on there.

The seller had over 250 sales and a 99% FB rating. The cards were new and with a "best offer" attached to the listing. I wrote with an offer of $10 shipped and received an invoice within an hour. A little less than a week later, I get an ebay email telling me the listing was removed and I had no obligation to pay.
The reason I remember the timing is because I received the item in the mail the same day as the email!

I have no idea what's going on, but the item was a great deal.

The point is, if you and the seller are in contact - go with your gut. For one reason or another, I've given my cell phone number to buyers that had questions or problems and this type of communication really goes a long way. If you don't hear from this seller then you need to protect yourself as soon as possible. If you paid by paypal, start the dispute now... You can always cancel it if you are happy with your item.

ebay and paypal can really suck and screw one side or the other without recourse. There are many sites out there telling of horror stories of both companies and many seem like they are telling the truth. Most people are honest sellers/buyers so treat them that way until you have a reason not to believe that. As for the paypal dispute, if recovery is necessary, look at the fine print and the amount of monies paypal keeps, 25-50% of your purchase price. I would go with most are afraid to give a bad ratting and then get a bad ratting in return.

I often go with the occasional seller with the 100% since I believe they will work harder to keep that 100%. Hasn't let me down yet.
Ended up meeting some good people in real life that way.

Did you read the original auction FULLY, MANY sellers will say it can be ended early, if sold locally (especially large shipping costly items)

They may have just pulled the plug themselves, and you got an Ebay automated form notice.

It might have been their cell phone was off or downstairs etc and some overpaid underworked feebay employee didn't like getting an answering machine so they canned the auction. Feebay has become a very restrictive place and it's not always the hackers fault anymore. If the seller can't answer the phone EVERYTIME they list an auction then the seller will have problems.

Have you talked to the seller in detail? Who are they and were do they live? Thats a rhetorical question you don't have to post that info here just something for you to think about. About 6 years ago we got scammed on a $600 item, we got quite a bit of it back from eBay, not sure exactly what percent though.

Today I got a email from ebay and PayPal this morning stating that the item listing was removed. This is the first of the email.

Unfortunately, eBay has removed this . All bids or offers on this listing have been canceled. Because the listing was ended, you no longer have any obligation to purchase this item.

This guy had a 2800 power seller and 98.6% rating
Does any know what this means. Hopefully it don't mean I lost my money. I did call PayPal and they sent me the directions to file a dispute.
