I got a feeling that OP was asking a util to backup "the stuff", wipe out and reinstall OS, restore "the stuff" as a way to fix a computer OS problem. For that, there is no such util.

1. I copy the partition containing the Vista operating system to an external hard drive...
2. I erase the hard drive I want to use and than copy the saved Vista operating system partition to the new hard drive.
3. I have done this many times and most often it will be reluctant so I put the Vista DVD in the drive and choose repair and it than boots perfectly into my operating system.

Sometimes It doesn't work so I would advise trying it on another computer first like I do when I experiment.

Don't ask me why I do this stuff...I just like to experiment..

As for a util to save system state + files + configurations, then restore on top of a new install. It does not exist. If it does, most of the computer techs will be waiting in the line outside the unemployment office.

I installed this on an older, slower (and smaller) hard drive...and I'd like to now reformat my better hard drive and install Vista on there.

That said, as many of you know, it requires considerable time to reformat and re-install everything (not to mention you have to back stuff up as well)...is there any way I can save my current system's state+files+configurations, put it somewhere else, then bring it back when re-installing Vista on the new Hard drive?
