Too much opportunity for trolling and flame wars. There's a reason why there aren't any religion or ethnic forums here, and that's one of them. It is the same reason why the Stars Backroom was a bad idea. -- "The trouble with computers, of course, is that they are very sophisticated idiots." - Doctor Who (from Robot)

And on the other issue, there's no need for a "straight lifestyle" forum for the same reason there is no White Entertainment Television or National Association for the Advancement of White People or United White College Fund. |

And the ultimate hypocrisy comes out: We want to be Equal, but we want our own brand and our own place to discuss it.
This thread, yet again with controversial requests, has turned into a great example of why it should not be on DSLR. Being part of the GLBT community does not some how change your opinion about how Comcast or TWC sucks, or that FIOS is the second coming of god. So why have a separate forum for them? |

said by ptrowski :Do I think there could be a forum here for the LGB? I sure do. But I shudder to think about the amount of trolling that would occur. I would think it would turn into a moderator nightmare. I wonder if it could be implemented like the Lifestyle forum, where you have to gain access. Maybe. I think one should be created, but I do agree that unless it has some kind of access restrictions, it will become a flame war (No pun intended) for the "children" who hang around here.
BTW your agreeing with the "lifestyle" or not, has no bearing on whether this forum should be created or not, so please don't comment.

| reply to Rombus said by Rombus : So why have a separate forum for them? Because on this site there are discussions not related to tech stuff in any way. So if some people want to have a "lifestyle" discussion they can do it without the worry that some homophobic user accidentally stumbles upon it while reading tech topics and makes a big deal about it. If they want to have it, let them have it... how does it hurt anyone? |

Let's keep our sexual lives to ourselves. There are plenty of other places to go to discuss things like this. I was on the side of OBJECT and then I read this (and a few similar ones following it).
That someone thinks a GLBT forum on a telecom board has to deal with "our sexual lives" illustrates the ignorance people have. Good thing he isn't in charge, he'd put the forum up under "Equipment Support," or maybe under "Hot Deals."
Groan.
*STILL OBJECT* -- I'd like to see some more interest in the various sections under "Talk Forums" to see what kinds of threads would happen and if or how they relate back to telecom and technology.
Out and proud.

Sure, why not, this site has a lot of social forums, and I guess it would be a nice venue for the homosexual members here to talk to each other.
As far as trolling is concerned, it could have an application process like the Health, Fitness and Lifestyle forum. **Sign** |
