Well dave, you got it straight from the horse's mouth. There must be a new version of Motorola ONT out that has the added feature of dual WAN interface. Luckily, ghot1 is scrupulous and only wants what he pays for. Just think of the horror if everybody had two WAN ports out of their ONT.

Note to ghot1 See Profile: nycdave probably dreams ONT PCB component assignment lists at night, that's how much he knows about the hardware. But then again, maybe you have an experimental version that's still in beta testing.

the guy who installed it said it was new model and he came from delaware to pittsburgh to install...both verizon and motorola said they could both be on...but they wont ALLOW it...it not the device 9at least in this case) it policy?

Im just tellin you what they told me bro .....this ONT is

It looks like you got the new gigabit WAN model. You're all set if you want to order the 500Mbps service when it's available. I wish I lived in PA. Rhode Island is such a backwater sometimes.

Really, I promise, no more. Note to myself: Live and Let Live.

dont feel bad....they didnt even have the pole wires run till 7 months ago :/ I've only had FIOS since aug 18th and after 4 hours of not usin browsers...they wouldnt work...till i rebooted comp even though i was still in Diablo 2 and that still worked....spent the entire 2 weeks trying to find out why ...they sent new router anf even sent a tech out......I even did fresh windows install to eliminate any software probs....and still the browser wouldnt connect after bein idle for 4-6 hours....finally i just told them i wanted cat5e from ONT straight to comp...they said it be $199 and so many more $$ for every 1/2 hour the tech be here...so i said if i buy and install the cat5e then how much...they said free....just call us when it installed and we'll switch it over...which was pretty cool i guess

But they also said i had to send router(s) and the BIG STB back and they would send me a DCT700 so the coax they already ran I could use for TV...but I lose tv guide, VOD, premium, pay per view and fios on demand...i said no problem lol

i asked why i cudnt keep the STB they said cause then id have to keep the router and then I could get (more or less) 2x 20mb/s lines.....and that just wasnt "policy" ....but I test software and hardware on comp so TV is just for background noise anyways....and on top of that i got free Comcast with the all utilities apt. i live in....so i said no problem

Actually Cat5 is fine for tv install, they would just hook up the coax to the coax lan port on the Actiontec.
Cat-5 can't handle the TV video, AFAIK, Coax is needed for the tv install and is why they'd like to install internet-only installations using coax (so they can sell you TV services as well, something harder to do if installation is coax-free using just CAT-5).
I am aware of that. You said they could not do Cat-5 from ONT to router if you have video service. This is INCORRECT. As I stated, they can do Cat5 from ONT to router they would then plug your coax into the coax LAN port of the Actiontec. This gives your STBs the guide info and VOD.

Hence, CAT5 can be used at ONT if you have video service.
Sorry if that's what I said, it's not what I meant. I meant to say that if you have video installed, coax must be installed to the house and so they want to install coax even for internet-only installations.

I had Fios Internet and phone for about a year. The wire run from the ONT to my Actiontec is Cat 6.

Yesterday, Verizon finally installed TV Service (3 HD DVRs). They used my existing Coax for the new TV runs. The MoCA is coax to the cable port on the Actiontec. The WAN connection to the ONT (Ethernet) remains on the Cat 6 wire. There did not appear to be any issue with this style installation.

I had 20/5 Std FIOS before and speed tests indicate that the same is the case now. I am not interested in taking any service that I am not paying for. However it does not appear that this cabling setup is in any way delivering more than the 20 down I am a subscriber to.

yes ty we all know the obvious....there is both a coax port and a wan port on the actiontec....the REASON they wont do it is coz then id have 40 MB/s coz the cox carries both the 20mb/s AND the tv signal at diff frequencies....and Im not going to PAY for 40 mb/s so they said they wont do it...

the TV signal will NOT come over the cat5e it can ONLY come over the coax

VOD is over the internet, so TV does come from the internet side when viewing on-demand which is different that your current cable provider

Why do you continue to post this misinformation about being able to get 40Mbps (20Mbps each over coax and cat5 at the same time)?

It is unfortunate that you were given incorrect information. Perhaps the person explaining it to you did not understand the technical reasons why it is not possible. However, continuing to post the same incorrect information in multiple threads serves no useful purpose.
• If you want to rant about it, then go to the »Rants, Raves, and Praise forum.
• If you want to make a formal complaint with Verizon, then post in the »/forum/vzdirect forum.

You have been told by multiple knowledgeable posters in this forum that it is NOT possible to provision your internet WAN connection over both cat5 and coax at the same time (and get 40Mbps). Here are two reasons why:

1} Your downstream internet connection is delivered over the 1490nm data stream on the fiber. Your bandwidth (20Mbps) on that data stream is provisioned at the VZ Central Office according to the speed tier that you pay for (again 20Mbps). At the ONT, that 1390nm data-stream can be delivered over either cat5 or coax (MOCA WAN). It can NOT be delivered over both at the same time, nor is there any way to get 40Mbps from a single 20Mbps data-stream. Upstream works the same way on 1310nm and is subject to the similar restrictions.

2) A residential account gets ONE and only one DHCP address. The cat5 and the MOCA WAN ports on the Actiontec have different MAC addresses. If they were to both to be active (which they can't) to the ONT at the same time, they would need two different IP addresses.

Or to say it simpler, the ONT receives 100% of the 622M (B-PON) or 2.4Gb (G-PON) bandwidth but only takes off the data addressed for that ONT. It then transports that picked-off data to the home's system through either the Coax or Cat-5, but it's still just that one data stream allocated for that customer. IOW there's only one internet datastream that's being directed over one of two interfaces. The download direction "metering" needs to be at the central office end else the system would be subject to a DOS attack.
