Re: Hanna giving us a visit?

Sorry - missed your question somehow.

She's been asked to do just that by several members of our family, but won't allow it. I agree with her. These trees are spectacular, and I remember my grandfather saying that they were that big when he was a little kid. They are important to her.
Granted, my grandmother's life is more important than these trees, but it's her decision.

It was going down pretty hard. I'm lucky it stopped at the parts where I had to take out my dog. She doesn't really go if it rains.

Re: Hanna giving us a visit?

Gotta love the weather reports on our local stations. One reports that we will see rain from Gustav and another states that Hanna will impact us.

Just brought in my plants, I have two huge Christmas cactus that I don't want knocked over and damaged by wind, along with a Pony Palm Tail. Now I just have to keep them away from the cats....

edit: moving weather warning to Weather Forum.

Shouldn't be too bad in the city with wind gusts around 45MPH. Not much worse than a typical nor'easter.

A saturated ground and heavy winds. I always worry about some of the 100+ year old tall trees around the farm in Westport when I see these reports. They're healthy trees, but really tall and really old.
We had some extremely violent wind storms up here this Spring, which was paired w/ snow soaked ground and heavy post-Winter rains... we lost hundreds of ancient, healthy trees just in my town alone.

WABC said there would be 2-4 inches of rain generally across the area. Also wind gusts of up to 60MPH are possible in eastern LI and portions of the Connecticut coast. Though it certainly doesn't look like anything is near us right now...

Tomorrow will just be a good day to stay indoors and watch a movie. There's also a tropical storm watch in effect for the area.
