Bad Billing Practices?

I'm not excusing the family, but how does AT&T, I mean at&t, allow their billing system to allow customers to rack up a $20,000 dollar bill? The system should have kicked off an automated call or put a block on the account or required an at&t rep to call the customer.

If I was at&t, I would not allow the system to just keep racking up customer's bill without knowing if the customer can pay back the bill.

There should be a limit. We're not talking about business account.

@mycingular.net

credit is checked when the account is activated. You're talking about initiating changes to a billing system that probably affects .00001 of their customer base. There's no return to cover the IT costs. The customer has to own responsibility for their usage.

If AT&T's costs were anywhere near the amount of the bill to provide the service there would be no way AT&T would take a chance and risk such a loss.

This is a trap, they risk almost nothing for a chance to rip off a customer and make a wad of cash.
