From tethering on AT&T EDGE to ISDN?

Has anyone went from using AT&T's EDGE to ISDN? The download speeds would supposedly be slower (around 220 kbps on EDGE), but I dunno with pings being in the 500's, I'm betting ISDN would make it seem snappier. And it would be a constant connection (getting alot of time-outs with tethering) as EDGE seems to come and go.

Re: From tethering on AT&T EDGE to ISDN?

Experience with both (although not at the same time, I haven't had ISDN in years) tells me that for most all uses, ISDN will be better than tethering with EDGE.

It's possible, if you have an excellent signal, that a bulk transfer would be faster on EDGE, but its interactive performance is quite poor due to the high latency.

One bar off from perfect on most days, but if it's rainy or foggy, might only pick up one or two bars.

Bigger downloads will sometimes cancel themselves out, but I think that's when it reaches it's higher speeds. Youtube-ing has to load about 30 seconds at a time to watch 5 seconds worth of clips so that's very frustrating!

That's not particularly good signal, although you might be able to improve things with an external antenna.

I have a friend who lives up on a hill maybe about a mile away from an at&t site. I can easily pull 200Kbps when I'm at his house. Web browsing is still basically like using a modem.
