| Need LCD recomendation...
Looking to replace a tv in our bedroom - currently it is a CRT and I think 19 inches. I want to replace it with a 19 or 22-25 inch LCD, HDTV for OTA (720p), will be attached to Dish receiver (non-HD), and it needs to have pretty good speakers as we do not have external speakers. We do have a VCR and dvd player as well to hook up.
I have looked at several at Sam's that seem to be ok and I have seen some Samsung LCD's that seem to have great pictures but are on the expensive side.
I plan on this being for a Christmas gift for my wife and I. Not planning to buy in the next couple of weeks but plan on taking some time unless there is a killer deal that crops up....
Any ideas?

Stay away from glossy LCD screens. Otherwise, you'll be looking at yourself in TV all the time 
They start offering them not only for laptops, but even for small TV too

I am surprised no one had any recommendations though - folks have to be buying these as well as the larger LCD's. |

If we watch a movie, the blinds are closed and any lighting will be behind or beside the TV, *never* in "front" of the TV where it can reflect off the screen. I don't recall what your budget is and mind you, I don't throw money around casually, but on a lower-end -- I do seem to recall it will be a smaller TV -- people don't sweat the details as much. |

I have a larger size than what you're considering, but I've been pleased with my Vizio, and the prices are good.

Just make sure it has plenty of external hookups. Component for the DVD player, composite for the VCR, and SVideo for the Dish. Then you'd just need the single RF input for the OTA signals.
That being said it's hard to go wrong with the Samsungs.. they do work pretty well. |

I was just at Sam's and they now have a 26" Sony that looks really nice. Price was fairly reasonable I thought. My sister has a 40" and my mom a 52" and they are both very nice sets. I really like the Sony Bravia's |

what you might want to look into are the 120Hz or 5ms response LCDs others will SUCK when you watch F1 on Speed... because they just cannot handle fast motion zoom in and outs... |

| I will agree on the 5ms response speed helping action motion blur on cable or satellite programming.
But .. I think the 120Hz feature mostly or only has to do with resolving what is called "judder" from movies, which are filmed at 24 frames per second. 24fps doesn't divide into either 30fps or 60fps evenly. But it does into 120fps, so you get an even, more smooth picture.
So unless you are watching a MOVIE source via DVD, Blu-Ray, or HD-DVD, from what I have read 120Hz doesn't do much or anything for normal motion blur.
Per CNet:
"The fact is, we haven't had a motion-blur problem with any of the newer 60Hz LCD TVs we've reviewed in recent times. Don't get me wrong--we did see a lot of what you might call blurring in faster-motion scenes, but it was always inherent in the source, so it looked basically the same on all of the TVs, including the plasmas."

It's all marketing to me! I still don't see "judders" on my normal DLP 65inch TV with blu-ray, etc.
Only thing that'll benefit 120hz is the source is really pushing out 120 different frames per second. |
