I can buy a Christmas gift any time - not necessarily going to be bought in December. As noted in the second sentence - did not plan on buying in the next couple of weeks... With no modifiers after that part of the sentence - I can buy after a couple of weeks easily. |

said by CylonRed :I plan on this being for a Christmas gift for my wife and I. Not planning to buy in the next couple of weeks but plan on taking some time unless there is a killer deal that crops up.... So at this point wait for the sales that will hit after Thanksgiving. And the way the stores are hurting there will be some "Killer" deals again. |

| reply to wings10 I never said I was going to wait 3 months - only that I did not plan on buying in the next couple of weeks unless a killer deal came up. I will continue to look from now till I decide on one and buy it. Couple be less than a month from now - might be longer. If one is going on sale due to a new model being released and is a good tv - then I would strongly consider the older model. |

| reply to CylonRed Well since you are waiting at least 3 months to buy a TV. There will be new models and sales in the coming months.

| reply to Hall If i had to pick a number for a budget - I would probably say $450 or less but if the TV is really good I might be persuaded to go as high as $500.
I just wish I could trust the screen in the stores - to know that the tv setups are not being played around with to try and push people into a particular set. Probably don't have to worry as much about that for smaller LCD's and places like Sam's. |

| reply to CylonRed Sorry if I confused all, but was trying to say to you, you may not need to spend the extra $$'s for a 120Hz set. And that is how we got off track
Someone earlier in the thread suggested to avoid an LCD without 120Hz processing as motion blur would occur in fast moving action sequences. I brought up that unless you see, and some people don't, judder in MOVIES the 120HZ doesn't make a difference over a 60Hz set for just motion blur.
If you have the extra bucks, go for the gold, 1080p, 120hz, etc. but if you are saving $$'s you have to pick and choose the features that will benefit your type of use and viewing, not the ...see my TV's specs bragging rights.... LOL |

| reply to CylonRed It is not as fast of a monitor/tv... although it looks pretty good... I have no problems watching the HD on my regular TV (DirecTV HD/Letterbox) with no motion blurs and jidders, but on an LCD I bought and returned WOW... like someone poured water on the screen... so much blur and jitters... I'd suggest buy one @ the local WerstBye and do a dry run, and than when you found one you like, buy it online cheaper... |

Only thing that'll benefit 120hz is the source is really pushing out 120 different frames per second. |

| reply to tigrzeye said by tigrzeye : So unless you are watching a MOVIE source via DVD, Blu-Ray, or HD-DVD, from what I have read 120Hz doesn't do much or anything for normal motion blur. I agree. -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

| reply to Da Geek Kid I will agree on the 5ms response speed helping action motion blur on cable or satellite programming.
But .. I think the 120Hz feature mostly or only has to do with resolving what is called "judder" from movies, which are filmed at 24 frames per second. 24fps doesn't divide into either 30fps or 60fps evenly. But it does into 120fps, so you get an even, more smooth picture.
So unless you are watching a MOVIE source via DVD, Blu-Ray, or HD-DVD, from what I have read 120Hz doesn't do much or anything for normal motion blur.
Per CNet:
"The fact is, we haven't had a motion-blur problem with any of the newer 60Hz LCD TVs we've reviewed in recent times. Don't get me wrong--we did see a lot of what you might call blurring in faster-motion scenes, but it was always inherent in the source, so it looked basically the same on all of the TVs, including the plasmas."

| reply to robbin said by robbin :I was just at Sam's and they now have a 26" Sony that looks really nice. Price was fairly reasonable I thought. My sister has a 40" and my mom a 52" and they are both very nice sets. I really like the Sony Bravia's They also have what looks like a nice 22 inch (I think - maybe a 26 Samsung as well). |
