| Economy The statistics, do they have anything to do with the economy?
We all know, or should by now, that there is a problem with the economy. People cannot afford to buy DSL.
Just a thought. Dial up has stayed the same in my area, DSL is only growing because it is becoming available to rural areas (due to the PA rules that went into effect) but we are talking 50 customers per area, and cable really sucks around here (atlantic broadband or no-name providers).
Migrating to fiber! Where? Is this going to be the new rural broadband argument? That fiber penetrations are not enough in rural areas? Geez. Rural areas, like areas around where I live, are just NOW getting DSL, good DSL at that. Also, the small towns are getting fiber but not by large companies, by small ISPs (mom and pops) that are doing it.
I say leave the telcos alone and let them deploy DSL to rural areas first before they start deploying fiber. DSL does NOT become the new dial up unless I can get it everywhere. Dial up, I can plug into every phone line, which there is one everywhere, and dial into the internet. DSL is not everywhere so the statement is completely out of context and out of line. It is insulting and naive to even suggest it. |
