However, the 63db downstream is a bit high, and might make your connection unreliable.<br><br>The upstream and downstream data use different parts of the spectrum (frequency range), and attenuation is higher on the part used for downstream. <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/411904"><b>gdm</b></A> : VRAD's and RT's can look similar and a VRAD maybe going up but you are on a RT for sure.<br><br>If you are getting a hum and some static my bet is a problem from the RT to your location.<br><br>You could post in ATT Direct as wayjac suggested.  Another option is to call POTS repair and report that hum/static but don't mention DSL at all.]]></description>

Whether it's RT's or VRAD's, what has been installed in Lincolnshire does look like some VRAD pictures I have seen.  DSL has never been available to my address before the last time I checked a couple weeks ago, and I just assumed the new infrastructure had been lit.  Now I wonder.<br><br>It is lineshare, and I do get occasional static and a constant but low level hum on the POTS line. I'm one of those crazy asterisk guys, but I did check with an analog phone connected directly and got the same result.  The stats I've been pulling have been the same all weekend long so I don't think the rain is playing into this.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/411904"><b>gdm</b></A> : VRAD is for U-Verse service which is VDSL you have ADSL.<br><br>If you aren't served by a CO then it's a RT = Remote Terminal.<br><br>I would go to the ATT Direct forum and have them look at the line.  Could be a open wire and since it's raining that could be causing your issue.<br><br>If this is a line share DSL do you hear any static on the phone when you pick it up?]]></description>

Any chance Direct can shed some light on this and possibly tell me which VRAD I'm connected to, or distance?  I assume it's through a VRAD, but if I'm at the limit, I wonder if I'm connected at the CO the next town over in Deerfield IL.  A DSL tech I spoke with on the phone 'didn't have that information'.<br><br>Lincolnshire has pushed for years to get DSL and the last they heard from ATT was 2012.  We're a small suburban village, and in all honesty, Comcast has probably saturated the broadband market here so we're probably not on AT&T's priority list.  Supposedly Sprint's WiMax plans speeded things up and we had VRADs installed this past fall.  I wonder now if those are available yet.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/218081"><b>kaila</b></A> : I've got a problem where attenuation is double on the downstream side.  A very poor 63dB down compared with 31dB up (measured through the Motorola 2210 modem).  This is a new DSL order, installed last Friday, and is connected through one of the relatively new VRADs that ATT has installed around my town.  It's the basic package for now, and the modem also says that it's currently tuned to 224/128.  SNR isn't stellar either, currently 12dB down and 19dB up.  As you can imagine, CRC error rates are high, although amazingly it seems to hold sync most of the time.<br><br>I've tested at the NID, swapped cables, etc, so it's definitely an issue outside my house.  Are differences in attenuation like this common, or an indication of anything?  More importantly, can something like this be remedied.  I'd really like to upgrade to express, but see it as an impossibility right now.]]></description>
