| [southeast] Network Discovery not working
Verizon's online support is pretty much useless. I have an issue that has been bugging me for sometime now.
When I first had FIOS installed back in March it would take about 3 or 4 minutes for my computer to discover the network every time I booted up. It was annoying, but I lived with it. About three months ago it wouldn't discover the network at all. I found that I could get it to discover the network by reseting the adapter via Windows Vista Network Sharing Center.
I have the Actiontec router. When I open Network Sharing Center it shows two networks - "Network 5" and "Unknown Network." After resetting the adapter the Unknown Network disappears, but Network 5 is still there and I am online.
Anyone know how I can fix this? |

| reply to mkarnes2008 Sounds like a Vista issue but I wouldn't worry about it unless you can't get Internet.
Vista also likes to name your network "Network" unless you're on a wireless connection it'll name it by the SSID. If it thinks there is a new network connection it will name it "Network 2" and so on so that's why Vista is calling your network connection "Network 5". You can easily delete the other networks Vista thinks exists in the Customize menu.
As for the "Unknown Network" issue, deleting the other networks Vista thinks exists might correct this issue. The reason why it displays "Unknown Network" is because Vista is trying to determine whether "Network 5" is a private or public network and set the sharing setting appropriately. |
