1 edit | Norton 2009 Product Line Now On Sale! Well, you knew it was coming... The Norton 2009 Product Line is now for sale. For all of you who have 2008 CD-Keys, yes... they do work in the 2009 product line.
I just downloaded a 2009 trial, installed it, and activated it with an old, still active 2008 key and it accepted it.
And for all of those Norton-haters out there, give it a try. It truly is a breath of fresh air when it comes to Norton/Symantec products. It really does install in under a minute! It really does uninstall cleanly! It really does use A LOT less memory!

Yorktown Heights, NY | I upgraded from NIS 2008 to NIS 2009 without any problems at all. The process uninstalled NIS 2008 and Installed NIS 2009 with all of the previous settings and NIS 2008 license key. No problems. No errors.
Great work, Symantec, for this wonderful upgrade process.

I tested the beta and must honestly say this is the biggest change to Norton in years.
It installs quickly, runs very lite, updates frequently and has top notch protection according to AV-Comparatives.
All in all an excellent update. Congratulations Symantec! |

Just upgraded from NIS2008 to NIS2009 on Vista 32-bit. No problems at all. It imported all my user-ids and passwords, credit card info etc. There was no need to retype anything.

Felt the same way.
Read so much good about Norton 2009 I decided to install it about 6 hrs. ago.
I have to admit, I am impressed so far.
Runs 2 processes using about 3,000k though in the Kernel file it uses about 20,000k more in the page file. No big deal though.
Quick scan took several minutes while the Full scan took about 47 minutes for about 220,000 items.
Updates are very regular, faster and more often then other av's I've tried.
Running very smooth using all options.
I like it so far.
The trial is for 15 days and if it continues
the way it is, I may end up buying this one.
Give it a shot HA Nut, this is not the old Norton!

What would you choose if you had a choice of either the the Norton 2009 or the End point protection? Did the Endpoint also get the 2009 boost? Is it also as light on resources as Norton 2009? Did the scan engine / heuristic detection improve? |

Our server consultant has used Symantec in businesses for a long time. But they are now actively looking for a replacement. They are very displeased with Symantec version 11. The system requirements are bigger than one might expect, especially the RAM. (1 GB minimum with 2 GB recommended.) Many of their clients can't run it.
On the other hand, it appears Norton 2009 is MUCH lighter. RAM requirements are only 256 MB minimum... |

Then get the trial and when it asks if you want to use a trial or not, input your 2008 key; it will gladly accept it. Yes, it will maintain the expiration date.
Or, you can download the trial and install it and it will remove the prior version first.
Anyway you do it, it works.

I know people are against the Norton account, but with the convenience it offers of not having to remember CD keys etc and having all your subscription in one place, I think the advantages outweigh the pain if any.

kudos:1 | Does anyone know if NAV 2009 is updating in a limited user account? I'm using NAV 2008 and still need to update with an admin account so when I leave pc running in a limited user account I am unable to obtain auto updates. |
