Hello, I also live in Somerville and am having the same problems. Luckily after a web search I found this forum and can see others are having the same problem. My latency issues started after last week's maintenance. I play an online game and have been experiencing major latency and frequent disconnects in the evenings, around every 5 minutes or so.

I'm not that network tech savvy but I will be running some speed tests over the next few days and will post my results. I've been on the phone with RCN 3 times and each time they tested my modem (while there was no latency of course) and told me it was fine. I have a technician coming tomorrow between 2-5. I don't know what that is going to accomplish since my connection is fine then.

Just posting here to let you guys know there is yet another person in Somerville having the same issues. I'm just about ready to jump ship to Comcast, but I'll give it a week.

Be careful with calling a tech out! If they don't find any problems (which they'll swear up and down they didn't) you'll get charged like a $49.95 truck roll fee. I would call and cancel that appointment.

Thanks for the heads up. You're right, I forgot about that. I will be canceling the appointment. Surprisingly I had a somewhat stable connection last night. Though the speed wasn't as fast as what I pay for, at least I was able to stay connected.

Hey guy, for the first week after the upgrades/augments, my speed as been somewhat better (at peak hours), and the latency (15ms 200 400miles) was an improvement, but it has gone down lately, of course it is not as bad as it was but it still isn't where it is supposed to be, i can't even host a game without having people dropping out because it is lagging so much.
What gives?
I thought this was suppose to fix all the problems?
Come on now, i know you guys can fix this, don't let us loose hope.

Some further work was completed by the market to address some problematic downstreams. Going to have to take another snapshot at peak to see how things are looking, but from what I have seen there was no full pipes last night.

If you are still experiecing issues then please post your MAC ADDR with your speedtest results.

This isn't making any sense. Just when I thought my connection was better, it went back to bad.

I'm not even getting bad latency all the time, just at random intervals. I seem to be having intermittent disconnects. When its running normally, my speedtest results are fine. But then I'll be playing my game (I play World of Warcraft) and all of a sudden I'll get some major lag and disconnect. Sometimes my modem loses connection to the outside, sometimes it doesn't. I obviously can't test my speed results then. Give it a few minutes and its back up again, with normal results.

This is definitely not the type of service I want for online gaming. I'm starting to wonder how good Comcast's service is.

Definitely seeing an improvement tonight, up to 15mbit. Still not the 20mbit I pay for, and still slower than Comcast's 16mbit tier, unfortunately.

Anything further planned to boost capacity/fix this problem?

would start by testing directly connected to the modem. Remember, we can tell by how many leases are out.. and dont forget to reboot your modem thats been up 11+ days when you swap devices.

seeing some higher speeds from you.

Speeds were fine for me while I was online. Problem is I wasn't online for more than 2 minutes before experiencing a brief disconnect. This speedtest was probably my highest point of the night. Unfortunately I canceled a service tech appointment last week because the problem stopped for a while. It happened last Monday and Tuesday nights, then stopped for the rest of the week, now here it is again on Monday night?

And that's my problem. Nobody is finding any issues with my connection. Taking a speedtest at any given time will return normal results, except for the very brief periods when I am disconnected. And by brief, I mean no longer than 30 seconds. This was happening to me at random intervals last night. Sometimes it would happen every few minutes, sometimes a larger gap. Sometimes my modem's 3 green lights would go off during a disconnect, sometimes they wouldn't.

How is it possible to prove this to you guys? Again, I'm not very tech savvy and I may not be explaining myself too well. I can assure you it's not my computer because I have three here that are all unable to connect at the same time. Faulty modem? Bad wires/splitters? I do live in an old house and the wiring is a bit messed up. Though the people upstairs have Comcast and haven't had any complaints, but they don't really require a constant stable internet connection like I do. I'm out of options.

Not that I've noticed so far, but I don't really have the tv on while I'm gaming. However I will check next time. I'm guessing it's going to happen again tonight so I will let you know then.

Well time to endure another night of frequent disconnects again. This time I'm logging everything.

Oh, and I just experienced a disconnect where all three green lights on my WCG200 went out for 20 seconds before all coming back on. I did not have any blocking on the channels you mentioned.

Sounds like a modem issue.

Is that a leased modem/router? Or did you buy it?

Tonight I wrote down all the times I disconnected. Some of the times my modem/router completely disconnected, other times it did not.

The times are as follows, starting at 5pm:

5:03, 5:50, 5:53 (modem down), 6:03, 6:14 (modem down), took a break for a while until 9:00pm, 9:51, 11:04, 11:26, 11:45, 12:16, 12:22, 12:26 (modem down), 12:29, 12:56-1:00 (3 times), 1:28 (modem down), 1:48 (modem down), 2:01, 2:21, 2:51, and 3:04 (modem). I've just about had enough for tonight.
