Throw it back at the CSR at the office...
then drive on over to Circuit City or Best Buy and get the D-Link DCM-202 and watch your problems go away, and speed increase

| reply to jmluongo said by jmluongo :Well time to endure another night of frequent disconnects again. This time I'm logging everything. Oh, and I just experienced a disconnect where all three green lights on my WCG200 went out for 20 seconds before all coming back on. I did not have any blocking on the channels you mentioned. we had OSP at your tap today to verify everything.. let me know if its better tonight. -- Joe Mirabella VOD Systems Engineer RCN Corporation |

| reply to Pzykotic just switched from comcast. any help? ...hope its not bandwidth allocation to rcn's preferred metro clients.
comcast kept shutting of my connection every 5 minutes to every hour like the problem posted by another user. currently using a cisco box, i can use a hitron (dcm 202) if that helps. please dont make me get fios...although i can see the vz central office outside my window.. lol? |

| reply to jmirabella My connection was improved last night. Only 2 disconnects in about 6 hours. I'd be happy about it, but as I recall the same thing happened last week. I had the problems Sunday-Tuesday, and they disappeared Wednesday-Friday, giving me a false satisfaction that it was fixed. Looks like the same thing is happening this week. Weird. I'll report back if my situation worsens again. |

1 edit | reply to Pzykotic I was so excited when my my connection seemed to go uninterrupted for around a week and a half. But this weekend I suddenly seem to be back to the same old tune of being disconnected every three or four minutes or so. It is beyond frustrating at this point, and some part of me is wondering if I should think about switching to Comcast, despite all of the bad rep they have (although it sounds as though someone else in this thread had the exact same problem with them). In the meantime though, here are my speeds and mac address. The ridiculously low upload speed concerns me as well... many times while playing an online game I've noticed that I can "receive" information just fine, but my input doesn't seem to be going through properly. |

| reply to jmluongo I'm experiencing the problems again. I'm starting to notice a pattern where I have them from Saturday-Tuesday, and it goes away from Wednesday-Friday. Does that make any sense at all? What is the next step? If I call an RCN tech out here and they don't find anything wrong, I do not want to pay the 49.95 fee. There definitely is something wrong. |

| reply to RC20 I posted this rant earlier in the thread, serious reduction in speed and no upload... They completed some work in late October 22/23 in Somerville and since then its all been downhill. They are a disappointing ISP company.
After all these posts and phone calls. Why no solution? Why no refund? |

| Just called customer service again. I told them I was having the problems at night on the weekends and monday-tuesday. They proceeded to check my line (at 1:30pm) and told me it was fine. I told them I called numerous times before in the evening when the problem was happening, and I even canceled a service appointment because it got better on Wednesday-Friday.
The rep's response was to call back again at night when I'm experiencing the problems so they can check my line again. But of course they're not going to see anything wrong like the last 3 times I called. I wish somebody knew what was going on. Switching my ISP is going to be my last resort. I already have an appointment scheduled with Comcast for next week. I'm hoping I can cancel it before then. I'm not really too fond of Comcast. |

| reply to Pzykotic This has to be an RCN issue not not your area.
I live in NYC queens and have the same EXACT problem. 2 modem swaps and countless calls and no fix and no answers.
This is not what people pay for. To get 1-5 mb on a paid 20 mb line is disgusting. |

| reply to Pzykotic I have been out of town for about a week so I haven't had a chance to follow up... speeds seem a lot better. Some preliminary testing at around 10-11 PM had me at 17mbit, which while it's still not exactly what I pay for, it's pretty decent.
I need to do some testing during the day and at night, but I just haven't been home. Hopefully I can do it within the next few days!
Thanks for fixing this issue, RCN!
Now... bring on the analog crush in Somerville asap |

| From what I understand Somerville is schedules for a crush date of Dec 15 and Dec 16.
I'm very happy to hear that things are looking a lot better, There was actually a street light going in and out that was causing the SNR to jump. I don't know if that was fixed or not I'm will look into it. Every time it blinked it caused ingress into the plant. -- Jason Nealis, Sr. Director, Video Product and Network Operations |

| Yes, strange things can cause system noise. I was reading something once (can't recall where) where a subscriber had problems only at a certain time. ISP techs eventually diagnosed the problem to a treadmill-type exercise machine that someone used at that time every day. Somehow, the machine generated noise that found its way into the cable system. |
