Absolutely awesome news. I can't wait to be able to play a game online without disconnecting every 10 minutes, because my DL speed is at 0.28 ... Just one question, are we to expect service interruptions during the scheduled maintenance? |

Love the news about maintenance, hopefully my speed test in 24 hours will be much faster |

| reply to Pzykotic Internet was down between 1 AM and 3 AM last night, and I just ran a speed test and my downstream is almost the exact same as last night's (7.5mbit).
I assume this will take more than one night to fix, but here's hoping it does SOMETHING soon |

| So far so good. I was on-hold for 20 mins last night at 2am to figure out why that they were having an outage (there was no notification ahead of time of the planned maintenence). However, at least latency has been fairly stable tonight:
»meepity.net/mrtg/gaia_latency.html
Things have been stable even during the previously bad times of the evening. If this continues, the capacity expansion may have helped at least in my part of Somerville. |

| reply to Pzykotic I agree, i have The megamodem Mach7, and even though i am not getting the full 7 mbps (which is to be expected during peak hours, i guess), last night i was getting a steady 5.5 mbps with 15ms latency, which is great, a week ago i would be getting 0.32 mpbs with 320ms latency. Keep up the good work. |

join:2002-06-27 Somerville, MA | reply to Pzykotic That's good to hear, since I just did a factory reset of my modem (for good measure) and was unfortunately left with the same speed as before I reset:
= 4.47 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]
Bring on the upgrades! |

Because:
= 8.22 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]
That's not an improvement, nor is it 20mbit. |

| reply to Pzykotic Just chiming in with my personal experience in the matter; I hate to say it, but my own speeds seem to have ~worsened~ since the work mentioned that was done on the 22nd. I don't have any precise numbers, but my connection in the evening has regularly been hanging up all this week. But tonight I'm getting flat-out disconnected every 15 minutes or so. This could simply have to do with Saturday traffic, but I sincerely hope they haven't "closed" our issue, as it's obviously still there.
To be honest, it seems as though this 1-2 week long persistent disconnect happens every 4 months or so, ever since I joined RCN in the Somerville area two years ago. And then the net is fine and dandy until the next overload. |

  Upgrade
@rcn.com | Im in Somerville since last tuesday my connection has been nerfed. On friday as well as today i have no upload and my speed is down 75% Last night it was working within the 20mb range.
Any one know whats the persistent problem is? |

1 edit | I'm having the same problem, although no disconnections. Speeds haven't improved for me at all - still around 2-6mbit at night and I don't think I've ever actually seen close to 20mbit in my 2 months here. I've done a factory reset of the modem to clear out set frequencies and such, and reset my router and made sure everything was working well - no go.
What could our problem be now?
Edit: Ok, so I just got disconnected, and I'm speed testing at .95mbit. Ouch.
How could my problems have gotten WORSE since the upgrades?! Arrrghhh! |
