It should be obvious WHY cable companies add more VOIP lines than telcos add cable-tv subscriptions. VALUE! Saving 20-85% off your POTS phone line while adding more features & flexibility are real tangible benefits, while telcos copy almost verbatim what cable companies do in cable-tv, except that they're devoid of most local public access/metro channels and local community content which most cable companies who have been in the business for 30 years customized for each community over time. No wonder telcos have a hard sell at and equal or higher price.

btw, at&t only plans to wire about 10% of their residential footprint with FTTP, the rest is ADSL2+ (good luck keeping customers when doc ver 3.0 comes calling)
