anon : Thank you broccoli. I researched a bit and found the following instructions: »www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Ac···guration Do they look like they would work?

And now, for the LAN browsing issue... This is more difficult. Any idea why it won't work? I should probably also mention the following information from my status page on the router:

WAN Status
=========
Connection Type: PPPoE
Login Status: Connected
Connection Uptime: 2:13:08
IP Address: 190.x.x.x
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: 190.x.x.x
DNS 1: 208.67.222.222
DNS 2: 208.67.220.220
DNS 3: 200.x.x.x

LAN Status
==========
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
Local DNS: 0.0.0.0

Thanks again for your replies.

broccoli : You have two issues, and I am addressing one of them here.

Your inability to access the modem admin web page is 'by design'. What is 'PPP'? Point-to-Point. One point is your router where you have it set up for PPPoE. Where's the other endpoint? The ISP. Any traffic passing through your modem WAN port is encapsulated in PPP, and is never seen by the modem admin util.

I read somewhere (possibly here on DSLR, but could not locate it at this time), that there are two ways to get around this. One is to put a hub/switch between the router and the modem so that you have a connection to the modem that bypasses the router. Note that WAN traffic only flows through the router so you are not exposing your LAN to the outside. The other way is to let the modem establish the PPPoE connection. A few modems have this 'half-bridging' mode aka 'DHCP spoofing' which could really help. In this mode, the modem handles PPPoE, and NAT is disabled so all traffic sans PPP is bridged to the LAN side. The WAN IP address is passed on to the LAN side by DHCP. In both cases you should be able to access the modem adminisration page.

PPPoE with DD-WRT- can't browse LAN or access modem config

anon : Hello all,

I hope you don't mind helping here, I can't seem to get help at the DD-WRT forums.... I recently changed my network setup so it's a bit cleaner. I have a DSL modem and a router running DD-WRT. Before, I had the DSL modem authenticating with PPPoE and from there the modem was plugged into a LAN port on my DD-WRT router, and the DSL modem was running the DHCP server. This did give all my wireless clients internet access, as well as LAN browsing and access to the modem config page. But the modem has a confusing config interface and my router is much more powerful and stable, so I want my router doing all the heavy work. So I changed things:

I now have the DSL modem (192.168.1.1) in "pure bridge" mode, and it is plugged into the WAN port of my router (192.168.1.2). The router is now doing the PPPoE authentication and is also running the DHCP server. The modem's DHCP server is now turned off. I am also using OpenDNS, btw. This setup now works very well for DSL authentication and internet access for all my wireless clients. I can also ping my wireless clients within the network. But I can't browse the local network, and I can't ping my modem or get into the config page at »192.168.1.1. My /etc/resolv.conf file (Linux) is automatically modified by DHCP as follows:

nameserver 192.168.1.2
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

A few screenshots are attached.
