I struggled to make this work, so I thought I could share the combination that worked (for me!). What didn't work : connecting my computer directly to the speedtouch. Even if UPnP was enabled, the Back to my mac feature wouldn't turn to green. Looks like the modem or the firmware are outdated. The firmware update function in the GUI didn't work as well (again, maybe the stuff is not maintained any more...) Instead I used a spare Airport Extreme Base Station (the old round b/g model) and used it as a DMZ for my home network.
I'm so pleased to discover that someone had managed to get the Speedtouch 585 working with Back to my Mac. Thanks for sharing the info.
We currently have one in Cyprus with out iMac and a 500gb TimeCapsule.
Would I be able to do something similar? I have a netgear router in the UK that works perfectly, the best solution for me is to get the Speedtouch to act as a bridge and use a 2nd Netgear router, identical to the one I have here, behind that.
quote: To do so, at the speedtouch level, I assigned the public address of the router to the AEBS (In the "Interface" section of the speedtouch menu). The speedtouch became therefore a bridge.
Could you precisely explain the process of making a Speedtouch into a bridge/modem please? I'm in the UK with no access to the router (no back-to-my-mac) and need to talk my Dad into doing this over the phone. I can send him a pre-configured Netgear based on settings that work here. I'll understand if it's too much trouble but COMMAND-SHIFT-4 on the Mac allows for screen capturing a part of the screen using a crosshair. Any possibility you could capture an image of the router settings?
quote: (Side note : As a result it is no more accessible by the Web interface to the computers that are behind the AEBS.)
Ah.. I guess that'd make capturing an image of the settings more difficult then?
Is DHCP then handled by your AiportExtreme? How do you subsequently change the router settings?
Many thanks,
Mark. |
