The Problem Isn't Price.....

I beg to differ. There are a lot of people out there who don't need or want the high speeds Comcast can offer. Therefore, are only concerned with what is really economical. Comcast hasn't been all that economical in that aspect for a very long time.

if you have a choice of comcast with a cap, or another without, who do you think most will choose. i know eventually everyone will have a cap, but make it reasonable, not like verizon, and sprint with a 5 gig cap. it will not be long i think before all the companies will offer service everywhere not just in certian areas, then there will be real compitition. or one company will swoop in and offer capless broadband to everyone at a cheep price,, lol that would be funny to watch them squirm

oh for the day when I see "real " choice in my area. We have either 1.5 DSL or COMcastic cable for a traditional ISP service speeds. Comcast has neglected to do any meaningful upgrades that would hint at the performance seen where they are up against the likes of Verizon or even AT&T uVerse. No, we're still plodding along on copper that is coming out of an overloaded CO to the point that new connections are done at the expense of existing pairs and customers end up being "re-provisioned" at lower speeds.Comcast bypassed our area and the Cable offering they do have is so overloaded they won't even pretend to offer their higher 6MB/8MB tiers but they extracted an annual rate increase (or more depending who was in the seat of gov't)and granted their monopoly without any control.

Hey Jimbo,
Here in Hercules(North of you by 16-20 miles) there is neither FiOS or Uverse.
Comcast upgraded me to Blast anyways.

The myth that one has to be served by one of "the other guys" is false.
Best I could hope for here besides Comcast would be AT&T DSL 6mbps if I am close enough... crapshoot, huh?

If Comcast is serving your area, and Blast is not available yet, you can get their 8mbps service.
... and since there is no contract, you can get it and try it without worry of any ETF if you decide to drop it.

Hope This Helps!

Thanks Dadkins,
I had Comcast for cable service and all i ever got was grief and rate hikes and less and less form ore and more. I'm about ready to give it a try but am nervous about their performance. My next door neighbor has them and isn't too thrilled with the reliability uptime and customer support.
I "have" to have a internet connection or I'm out of a job so playing re-provision roulette with the telcos/ISPs makes me nervous in this economy. I might be forced to go Comcast if ELNK continues to degrade.

You are using a residential class service for work?

Cable TV gets increases all the time - so does Sat.
HSI has been $42.95* for at least the 5 years I have had it.

*I did opt for the $10 extra for speed(now at 16mbps) so mine is $52.95. I also have TV and CDV so HSI is discounted $14.

Support is fine here, the few times I have needed it.
One CSR did bork the Blast upgrade but a call straightened it out.

Good luck!

I'm jealous- just kidding- Yeah I have to opt for residential because of my cheap-ass company is picking up the bilol (or at least part of it) Covad offers 1.5 synchronous for about 200.00 a month for business class and is about the best price for DSL. Even with its issues Comcast is looking better and better!
