I can live without cable tv just fine. What if any are the options other than ATT for DSL service?

I would also suggest that people pass on the complete UVERSE package, as it appears to be an old technology, not quite ready for prime time. I give it a 1 out of 5. I really regret making this choice. I was great at first and I liked the package of available channels, but with a bad heart I cannot and will not tolerate no basic phone service without a really good reason. I'm sorry, but this UVERSE thing sucks stale pond water. Very bad decision on my part.

It would almost be tolerable if ATT had a responsive service department but clearly they don't.

Is it really that bad? AT&T started advertising UVerse and if percentage of unhappy customers is high the results would appear as customers churn relatively soon. Most of departing customers would take triple play packages from cable companies and AT&T's revenues would start shrinking. They might regret not going with fiber, as Verizon did.

Really bad for having competition in Internet service.

DrStrange : If you want to give AT&T another shot, have MrFixitCT look into your issue. He's known to be pretty responsive.

If you're going to switch:
If your telephone line is switched back to AT&T copper and you're close to a phone company central office [for 6.0 you want to be 6,000 feet or less from the CO], you might be able to get DSL from Covad or one of its partners or resellers. There are probably a few other non-AT&T companies around [not sure if NetPlex resells AT&T or somebody else's DSL], but it's dependent on your CO distance, as AT&T's competitors don't get access to AT&T remote terminals.

If you can't get copper back, you can get free-standing ['dry loop'] DSL from some of the companies I mentioned above, but it costs considerably more.
